AIBU to think Teletubby nicknames between DPs are perfectly normal?

DP and I have been together for 15 years. From our earliest days together, we have nicknamed one another after Teletubbies. I am Po (little, cute, and very red, being Scouse and an LFC supporter) and he is Tinky Winky (he's not purple, and he doesn't carry a Maggie Thatcher style handbag, but Tinky Winky is Po's best friend, so it makes sense.)

Tinky Winky has been shortened to ''Winky'' over the years.

Some of you, somewhere, MUST be equally strange? I refuse to believe that it is just us.

It is just you :)

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 10:14

Shock NOOOOO. There must be someone else equally strange out there!

just you!!!

OneUp · 28/10/2013 10:23

Definitely just you who does the tellytubby names!

Floggingmolly · 28/10/2013 10:23

You both sound a little bit Dipsy!

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 10:26

I once confessed this to a mutual friend of ours, and she thought it was quite cute.

I should point out that we only call each other Po and Winky on a day to day basis. Obviously not during intimate times, as that would be beyond sick!

Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone thought we are even weirder than we actually are. Blush

Fine to have little pet names.

No need to go la la over it though

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 28/10/2013 10:34

Haha i think its cute

HerrenaHarridan · 28/10/2013 10:34

Yabu!

Teletubbies are an abomination unto Nuggan!

Heartbrokenmum73 · 28/10/2013 10:36

Not quite the same, but DD was always the naughty noo-noo because she used to go around hoovering up food.

Does that help, OP?

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 10:39

Our cats are the naughty noonoo in our house, because the little buggers will eat anything.

Long before I met DP, my sister was known as LaaLaa, largely because her name is Layla, which is almost the same.

Do you make him tubby toast :)

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 10:43

Nah, he's a Masterchef type, so he cooks in our house. Thankfully.

refrains from making any ill-advised remark about tubby tustard

I think this is normal in private between a couple. I call my husband Stinkos in private and he calls me Monkey. In public, no, nauseating.

SeaSickSal · 28/10/2013 11:03

And my cat is called Tinky.

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 11:12

Oh no, we don't call each other Po and Winky in public - we'd be locked up!! Only in private.

OP posts:
CoffeeTea103 · 28/10/2013 11:14

It's cute. Smile

scarevola · 28/10/2013 11:18

There are many, many things done by consenting adults in private.

Do you have the costumes?

WilsonFrickett · 28/10/2013 11:19

po is the Scottish abbreviation for a potty. So no, that wouldn't fly in our house...

Seriously, I think nicknames are cute but only when there isn't anyone else within earshot. Only exception is teen DCs for embarrassment purposes Grin

themaltesefalcon · 28/10/2013 11:21

Hmm, he calls me variations of Sweet Lady (to annoy me). I call him Swiss Chard, Fuckface or Vibrating Bum-Faced Goat.

You're not normal, OP!

AnyWetCuntweaselsInTheFuckerGr · 28/10/2013 11:23

Err - a 'winky' is a one-eyed trouser snake.

La la would be a better choice!

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 11:27

I know what Winky refers to (apart from my DP and a shortening of the Teletubby's name, obvs) but that kind of made it more amusing for us.

I mentioned earlier that LaaLaa is my sister's nickname, so that would just be odd if I called DP LaaLaa as well.

I also know that 'Po' is a German slang word for 'arse'. I prefer to think that DP is calling me that in honour of the little cute Teletubby though!

ZingWantsCake · 28/10/2013 11:30

just you!Grin

but it's fine.
somewhat better than when BIL & SIL used to call each other "bird and bloke"!

fanjofarrow · 28/10/2013 11:32

@Zing 'bird' & 'bloke' is better than 'pimp' and 'ho', at least! Shock

OP posts:
SavoyCabbage · 28/10/2013 11:36

Po is Pui from Fun With Phonics.
