If the person behind the counter says "£1.99 please." I will hand over £2 and not wait for my penny change.

You wouldn't like Australia. We don't have one cent coins so prices are always rounded at the till, so if something is marked 99c you will be charged a dollar. You get used to it.

I have never known a shop assistant to ask me to pay the wrong price.

But if one did, I guess it would annoy me. Either way I'd wait for my penny change to go in the change jar.

Grr, that gets my goat. Happens all the time to me and I resent feeling like a cheapskate when I stand politely waiting for my change.

I must be the only one this happens to. I never wait for a penny if charged correctly but this has happened 3 times in the last week. Admittedly, its the same woman each time. I've asked for my change every time, she just doesn't get it.

In Oman a lot of shops have a charity box by the till, everyone puts their shrapnel in these.

What would happen if you gave £1.98

I was in SportsDirect once and they told me they didn't have 1p change and were expecting me to just let them have the 1p. I said, that OK, then give me 2p. Funnily enough, they suddenly found the 1p which I then put in the nearest charity box (which they didn't have on their counter afair).

I never take my change if its under ariund 30p I always tell them to just drop in in their charity box, dh does the same. mainly because coppers are annoying fill up your purse and never get used, we bin any that are in the house

There is talk of getting rid of the 1 and 2 cent coins in Ireland early next year. Smallest denomination will be 5c but I imagine most things will be a euro rather than 95c.
