To be upset about my wedding venue?

Name changed
Basically have a tiny budget. We were going to cut our guest list but we don't want to. We love everyone on it.
Have been offered The British Legion as a venue for free. Best man works evenings there.
We have decided to take it so we can afford to give everyone a nice time. Its bloody ugly inside. Has lovely big field though/n pretty outside etc.
I know I chose this, and I am not wanting to save up for few years as I just want to marry dp and have all our friends and family there. And would be stupid to not accept such a generous offer.
Just venting I guess... and wondering what to do about the fading carpet, chipped paint, arcade machine...

So peased you are happy with your plan, and I hope you find a nice dress.
No rush though.

SecondStar I like the champagne lace dress. Gorgeous. And £70 is amazing!

So here's another dilemma I have. whispers I can't dance Blush

Don't get me wrong, I can 'casual' dance if we ever go out anywhere that you do, with friends etc. But I can't dance. Like properly.

So the first dance tradition has got me all blustered. We want to do one. I just think I need to teach myself somehow. I don't want to do awkward shuffling around.

I'm sure you've already said, but when is the wedding ?

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 25/10/2013 20:18

WaitMonkey Wedding is in July.

Your guests won't be looking at you thinking "what a shit dancer"
Just do the generic hands around waist/neck and float side to side. The thing I always notice in first dances is the couple looking at each other and having a little private chat, I love it. I certainly don't notice their footwork!

WaitMonkey · 25/10/2013 20:42

What's your budget for a wedding ring ? What's your engagement ring like ? Any idea's of the style you'd like ?

WaitMonkey · 25/10/2013 20:43

July. Certainly look in places like Monsoon in January. They have some great deals.

WaitMonkey · 25/10/2013 20:45

Yes, don't worry about the first dance. Most couples seem to just hug each other and shuffle round the floor whilst having a chat. That's dh and I did.Grin

I know. I just want to be able to dance. I am very bad!

I'm not planning to do a choreographed dance. Dear no! Went to a wedding a few years ago. All the wedding party got up and did Thriller. I cringed for them. Was awful!

And our first dance song is complicated to dance to! Its not a shuffling song.

WaitMonkey My engagement ring is white gold with a tiny diamond. I don't know about the budget for rings. It's included in the wedding budget, just havn't worked out how much to put aside for them.

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 25/10/2013 21:20

Sorry. Got a little bit trigger happy with the !! in that post Blush

A plain white gold ring shouldn't cost much if you try Argos or H Samuel. Just make sure you get one the same ct as your engagement ring. Love looking at wedding rings. If you want one with diamonds, obviously it will be more expensive.

HorryIsUpduffed · 25/10/2013 21:54

Yes, mine looks like this Argos one although incredibly the 18 carat version costs six times as much! Shock

Charlesroi · 26/10/2013 08:21

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow There's bound to be something on YouTube to teach you how to dance. Find out the timing (e.g 4/4) for your tune and find out which dance type fits best. You can Google for a diagram of the step sequence.

PS I can't do 'proper' dancing either

ancientbuchanan · 26/10/2013 11:49

Again, check ebay. Nothing wrong with recycled.

differentnameforthis · 26/10/2013 11:49

for bar purposes?

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 26/10/2013 21:53

Horry What a bargain for that ring! Seriously can't believe the price difference. I know that the second ring is a higher carat, however no visible difference at all.

anchient I will check ebay tonight actually. I always feel unsure on things like this though. No guarantee. Saying that, don't know anybody who has been stung on there, so maybe it's just me being silly.

charlesroi I'm confused on the 4/4 timings etc.. Howwould I work that all out? Blush

different That is a good idea. I was thinking I could have personalised bands.

So went to see the Reverend today. All went really well. She has booked the back rooms for us after deciding we can use them now. Smile Went through the order of service with us. And booked us properly. Just need to work out the logistics now, as we havnt decided on the time. Just know it's in the afternoon at some point. I'm to call her in the wek once it's been decided.

Went and had a look at the rooms after & their perfect. Have their own little courtyard. 2 rooms. Its lovely.

However the best bit was when we went to see the Legion to confirm times with them. They have given the place a lick of paint. Pure white so the room is slightly 'lifted' IFKWIM. And they have lost the red patterned old carpet & replaced it with navy. It looks so much better. No idea when they have done this (havn't seen the place for about 3 months) However it has made my day. It just makes it so much better.

The whole thing is perfect. Okay, it's still no beauty, but it looks cleaner. Fresher. So happy. Smile

Pictures to follow. Phones just charging.

SecondStarToTheRight · 27/10/2013 01:21

That's brilliant! So pleased things are coming together for you

If you don't want to take HorryIsUpduffed up on her offer (I would though) then use musicnotes.com to get the first page of the sheet music(free!), make a note of the numbers next to the treble clef, then go to www.ctkr.com/articles/Rhythmic_Patterns_1.pdf where there is a handy table matching time signatures to dance types.

WaitMonkey · 27/10/2013 10:14

Ooh, how exciting. If you've put photos up, I will have a look on my computer after.
