EDL....

DandyFloss · 29/09/2013 11:41

I am a regular who has name changed for this thread.

I would like to have a discussion about EDL. I want to know exactly why people find them so abhorrent and why it is such a taboo subject.

I dislike militant Islam, it is a dangerous movement and it really frightens me. A family friend was killed in 9/11 and it was a horrible horrible tragedy.

I have two mixed race children, my DH is mixed race, I would not say I'm racist or xenophobic.

As far as I can gather EDL oppose militant Islam, and this alone.

Why does this make them racist? Surely militant Islam, although a very small proportion of Islam, should be opposed?

There is no simple link between race and child sexual exploitation," the committee report said.

It is important that police, social workers and others be able to raise their concerns freely, without fear of being labelled racist."

Again, it doesn't actually state that this was case. It is important that people are able to raise these concerns without fear.

Whilst we are at it though, may I suggest <a class="break-all" href="//:www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/may/06/sexual-abuse-in-white-community" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this

How many Christians take the bible literally, word for word? For most people it's just a social thing, going to church on a Sunday. It's not like they pray several times a day like most Muslims do. Or define themselves by their religion.

AdventureTed · 30/09/2013 14:10

Here is another article you won't want to read:

Dawndonnaagain · 30/09/2013 14:14

Quite a few take the bible literally. I have been told on more than one occasion that my disabled dd is disabled because I have done something bad before her birth. On questioning, nobody can tell me what this bad thing was. There are many orders that pray more than once a day, too. So what is your problem with people praying once a day?
I know a number of Christians that would be extraordinarily offended by your post, flaflafla, they don't go to church to socialise, they go to worship, they do define themselves by their religion.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/09/2013 14:17

Gosh, yes, adventure, I always fall over myself to read red top bullshit.
FFS, you and the other one have only appeared in the last week, well, you in the couple of weeks and the other one today. Stop stirring, nobody is interested in what you are trying to sell.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 14:20

Well I'm not trying to "sell" anything. I'm not in the EDL. I'm just stating the facts of what I know.

DeVere - some muslim males DO use Aisha as an excuse to be paedophiles. It does no one any favours to pretend otherwise. Muhammad is viewed as the perfect example.

But you are not stating any facts. You have no evidence. You're making it up as you go along.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 14:24

I've posted several pieces of evidence. What evidence do the "racist"/Muslims are FAB brigade have other than their own beliefs?

Dawndonnaagain · 30/09/2013 14:25

Ted Some white males use pre raphaelite pictures too. Let's face it, any paedeophile is going to have an excuse, and the reality is, the excuse is irrelevant, the crime is a crime no matter who is committing it. There appears to be little evidence that paedeophilia is greater in the muslim communities, in fact quite the opposite.

Dawn - I like debating issues.

I have noticed that when posters on here run out of arguments they resort to personal insults. I don't mind, but it makes them look childish.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/09/2013 14:28

Ahh, so you don't mind when the EDL say it, but you do if a Muslim Cleric says it.
He was fined, the law was upheld. Same as it should be with other groups.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 14:29

I wasn't aware that the EDL had their own TV channel.

I haven't insulted you, Ted. I haven't run out of arguments, either. I have asked for evidence that you have been unable to provide. I'm also bored now and have to continue with some work I need to finish.

flaflafla · 30/09/2013 14:35

Whoever it was lives in Walthamstow, here's a nice man who lives in your area:

Mr Jilani, who is based in Walthamstow, east London, said in the offending programme: “The matter of insulting the prophet does not fall in the category of terrorism.

“Those who cannot kill such men have no faith.

“It is your duty, the duty of those who recite the holy verse, to kill those who insult Prophet Mohammed.

“Under the guidance from Islamic texts it is evident that if a Muslim apostatises, then it is not right to wait for the authorised courts; anyone may kill him.

“An apostate deserves to be killed and any man may kill him.”

Why hasn't he been charged with inciting murder? Fining the channel is one thing, it really should be shut down, but shouldn't the man saying it be in trouble too?

Dawndonnaagain · 30/09/2013 14:40

I could post any number of youtube clips of Tommy Robinson and say exactly the same thing.
These are not coherent, cogent arguments, on either side, extremist views on either side are not the views held by the majority, ergo posting these clips is completely pointless. But hey, if you want to side with the extremists, because that is what you are doing, then go ahead.

YouTheCat · 30/09/2013 14:45

So what the police didn't act in 2002 over a Muslim gang? They probably didn't act through lack of credible evidence. You can't just march into court and take people's words for things - you need proper evidence. If they had none it there wouldn't have been a conviction anyway.

And you can't say it was because they were Muslim - what about Savile, getting away with being a paedophile since the 70s.

Ted, you only seem to pop up on threads about Muslims and race related issues. You seem to have rather an unpleasant agenda.

AdventureTed · 30/09/2013 14:49

Dawn - I've provided lots of evidence. Most of it in this thread has been ignored because it is not what you all want to see.

nennypops · 30/09/2013 14:51

AdventureTed: "some muslim males DO use Aisha as an excuse to be paedophiles. It does no one any favours to pretend otherwise. Muhammad is viewed as the perfect example."

Name them. And while you're about it, give a full account of non-Muslim paedophiles. Also, have a think about our own culture in which the age of consent has in the past been under 9.
