to think 11 miles really isn't that far?!!

Was due to meet someone for a date tonight.

He has cancelled as he feels the 11 mile distance between our homes is just too far, and it would be impossible to see each other regularly...Hmm

My reaction to this was laughter, 11 miles?! I know people who have to travel further than that just to buy a paper and a pint of milk!

I have simply filed it in my 'lame dating excuses' folder, along with (far too) many others.

And people wonder why I'm single Grin

It is just an excuse.
You are better off without.

Doesnotdrinkalcohol · 28/09/2013 11:35

Phony excuse. He's changed his mind about you/met someone else

frogspoon · 28/09/2013 11:36

Agreed, clearly just a crap excuse.

Forget about him.

VelvetSpoon · 28/09/2013 11:41

I think rather than having found someone else, he's yet another of those OD men who are just scared of meeting a real live woman (I've encountered quite a few of those!).

It is such a stupid excuse though, can't help but laugh!

The man is clearly a loon and you've had a lucky escape there, which didn't even cost you the price of a round of drinks!

soontobeburns · 28/09/2013 11:48

For me and my partner it would be as we dont drive.

Tee2072 · 28/09/2013 11:50

11 miles is too far to 'pop over for a coffee'?!?! Maybe if you have to walk...

PlayedThePinkOboe · 28/09/2013 11:51

I knew I'd met someone special when he came on 2 plane and a 3 hour train ride to meet me. :)

(We're married with kids now)

Trills · 28/09/2013 11:51

Lucky escape - what if you met and got on and then realised that he expected you to move to his village and live next door to his parents?

He works in London which is 25 miles from where he lives (and involves him passing through the town where I work) so really 11 miles isn't far. So its more of a made up excuse than anything genuine!

Re dropping in etc, I have my children here 90% of the time so there's no way any man would be popping round for coffee :) but even if he could, it would only be a 20 min drive, nothing too taxing!

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 28/09/2013 11:58

My first boyfriend walked four hours for our first date from his village to ours ... my dad drove him home.

digerd · 28/09/2013 12:03

How lazy is that. When I was sweet 16, my bf travelled 260 miles to visit me on Friday nights and then back again on the Sunday on his motorbikeSmile. He was 18. That is called love and commitment < and teenage raging testosterone Grin

Tee2072 · 28/09/2013 12:13

My husband flew 5,000 mikes to meet me for the first time.

Do I win?

Grin
VelvetSpoon · 28/09/2013 12:29

Now you're just making me feel bad, I can't get someone to travel 5 miles!! (We were meeting in the town between our homes)

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 28/09/2013 12:40

Sorry. It's really not you. It's him.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 28/09/2013 12:41

Velvet - yes, I was reading all the posts thinking 'I'm not sure all those 'willing to travel men' are actually going to make V feel better about it are they Grin I'm sure they only meant that 'Clearly he's a FOOL' if he wont travel 11 miles to see someone so utterly amazing :)

One step closer to Mr Lovely :)

GangstersLoveToDance · 28/09/2013 12:45

What?! 11 miles is nothing. Clearly a nut job.

Trills · 28/09/2013 12:46

Imagine if you lived in the same town as him. You'd never have found out how limited his circle of existence is. This is a lucky escape.

FutTheShuckUp · 28/09/2013 12:47

Was he Richard off the undateables?

FutTheShuckUp · 28/09/2013 12:49

My boyfriend used to drive 40 miles to pick me up from my house, take me for something to eat, drop me at my mates house in his home town and if he was lucky I might meet up with him at some point that weekend. He was a peach

VelvetSpoon · 28/09/2013 13:38

Ah, he's just another silly man! I do wonder why I attract all these idiots though, I think I'm quite pretty, I've lost nearly 3.5 stone this year, you'd think there would be men who'd actually WANT to date me, and not be put off by the arduous 11 mile trek across suburbia Grin

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 28/09/2013 13:40

Well, to be fair, some people do think 11 miles is far (they are wrong, of course) - the kind of person who lives in the same street as their mum, granny and sister usually Grin

Onwards and upwards, OP!

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 28/09/2013 13:53

YANBU

His loss...He's a very, very silly man Wink

Looking on the bright side, you've had a lucky escape.
