To be considering webcam work?

Haven't even name changed...eeeek

I am slowly trying to start my own business. Slowly because I don't have enough money, don't yet have enough equipment and am a lone parent.

I have seriously been considering taking up online webcam work to earn extra money to buy the equipment I need.

I have checked out a few websites, you can block certain countries from seeing you so nobody I know would have to find out! Getting undressed is not necessary and infact banned on some sites outside of 'private shows' and I could do it as and when I want (ie when DS is in bed)

Have I completely lost my mind or does it make sense?

Bizarre

Sunflower49 · 07/11/2013 19:12

I don't earn money for him, Imperial-I earn it for myself. He is decent enough to respect what I want to do for money.

I got to know a great bunch of girls through a forum for cam and phone workers. I've girl was being a second job to keep the wolves from the door. She applied for a drop in carer position and was offered it. It was 6.50 an hour on a zero hour contract, having to use her own car with no reimbursement to travel between jobs, some of which would only last half an hour. So she could be our three house for 4 hours get paid for two clocking up the miles on her car and using her fuel for thirteen quid. Not to mention in the cold and dark nights, less than savoury areas.

Or she could log onto the phones for a couple of hours in her own home and make that sane amount in 2 hours, not continually chatting with a cuppa in hand.

That was her choices. Should she have opted for the care post to keep her fabled moral compass in check? I know what I'd rather be doing.

hamdangle · 07/11/2013 19:32

It is about your 'moral compass' though. if you wouldnt be happy with your OH watching girls online or you wouldnt be happy with you son watching women online or you wouldnt be happy with seeing your daughter doing things online or your mother even, then morally you shouldnt do it yourself. Not for any amount of money

And If you think your kids won't find out about it when they are older then you are very very wrong. Nothing disappears once it's put on the Internet and teenagers are exactly the sort of people who would trawl the Internet looking if a rumour got out that someone's mum was a bit of a one. Search engines are already very sophisticated and you have no idea how easy it will be to find anything online in just a few years' time.

KareninsGirl · 07/11/2013 20:25

I also remember the thread about the husband/friends outing a local cam girl.

Do you have children sunflower?

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 07/11/2013 20:34

I didn't imagine it then, KG

KareninsGirl · 07/11/2013 20:38

Nope, mist.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 07/11/2013 20:53

Thanks ILetHim, PR sounds lucrative.

Sunflower49 · 07/11/2013 23:10

OH watched girls when he was single, as for my son-I'm not naive enough to think that he won't look at sexual images as he gets older.

It's unlikely kids will find out. IF you were a porn star, yes. A camgirl-no. If you're recorded and it ends up on a porn streaming site, you report it-it gets removed.

However as I explained above, I am not so concerned about being 'outed'.

Grennie · 07/11/2013 23:15

I wouldn't take the risk.

And I could not be with a man who exploited women in this way. Bloody disgusting.

Grennie · 07/11/2013 23:17

And if you google about webcam work, there are various women saying how many barely make over the minimum wage. They say a few make good money, but most don't.

Sunflower49 · 07/11/2013 23:21

A lot of those women are speaking about it BECAUSE they didn't do well, though. I know a lot of webcam girls and yes, it isn't for everyone. If you've any slight problem with what you're doing, I think it comes across on the camera.

fifi669 · 07/11/2013 23:25

Personally it's not something I'd choose as a career choice...

But if needs must, who am I to judge? If silly men want to give you money for a chat and a flash if boob more fool them!

Grennie · 07/11/2013 23:37

I think you need to do more than that fifi

Sunflower49 · 07/11/2013 23:41

Fifi that's exactly my outlook a lot of the time.

It's not all samey though. Sometimes it's what Fifi describes...
Sometimes It's bizarre fetishes that I'd never heard of until I found myself doing them (anyone here get turned on by observing popping balloons)!?
Sometimes guys just want to chat.

One guy pays me a reduced rate for a 'counselling' session....

Tee2072 · 08/11/2013 07:03

Interesting discussion. Not something I would personally do, but I do not judge others for doing it.

And whomever suggested dating sites are only for single people, has never been on one. If they were, there would be no option to select "married" for a profile. And so the companies that run them are well aware not everyone in them is looking for love.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 08/11/2013 07:14

You seem was if you know a lot about it greenie but your spouting opinion as fact.

You don't have to do more than getting your tits out. I rarely took my knickers off, in fact only for one guy who paid a higher rate and wanted to see my bare bum. I, and many others, wouldn't lie legs spread, internal organs on show.

Grennie · 08/11/2013 07:26

You don't just flash a breast. You put on a sexual performance. That is what they are paying for.

Tee2072 · 08/11/2013 07:28

Done it, have you Grennie? I never have, or watched one, so I have no idea what the women actually do. Nor would I assume what they do.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 08/11/2013 07:34

And so the expert speaks...

Grennie · 08/11/2013 07:44

Webcam work is sold to the men who will pay as a sexual performance. A sexual performance is not just about how much of your body you expose.

Grennie · 08/11/2013 07:45

Just made the mistake of googling and these adverts mainly vseem to promise naked girls and show previews of very sexual performances.

Grennie · 08/11/2013 07:48

Okay NSFW
This describes itself as a high end webcam service, and in comparison to many, is marketed as such. But do you really think the guys are not expecting a sexual performance? Get real.

Tee2072 · 08/11/2013 07:53

I think I believe someone who has actually done it, as opposed to someone who has spent 10 seconds Googling it.

There are many types of sex acts.

Grennie · 08/11/2013 07:55

I don't necessarily believe anyone on the internet is who they say you are. And you are naive if you do.
