To think porridge is a man breakfast.

DH insists all breakfast cereals are girly food.
I suggested porridge as an alternative cos I consider that a manly food ( I don't know why, maybe it conjures up images of hardy Scotsmen).
Anyway, he disagrees and thinks it's as girly as fruit and fibre or special K.
Opinions? or am I being odd to think of breakfast in these terms? It's only cereals that I divide along gender lines btw before I get accused of agreeing with the Muller yoghurt ridiculousness and I always have porridge!

Your husband is very odd. You, slightly less so.

Sirzy · 07/09/2013 10:02

Your both odd to assign genders to breakfast cereal!

Pagwatch · 07/09/2013 10:03

You are both assigning genders to breakfast cereal.
You are both odd.

Tee2072 · 07/09/2013 10:03

Breakfast cereal has gender? Confused

SPBisResisting · 07/09/2013 10:04

YABO sorry

wonderingsoul · 07/09/2013 10:04

my guess is that he wants you to do a full english every morning Wink

stubbornstains · 07/09/2013 10:06

What does he consider a manly breakfast? If it's meat, tell him he's not a real man unless he's gone out pre-dawn and killed it with a bow and arrow Grin.

Porridge is a small boy breakfast in this house. I would be careful of letting your DH have any in case it causes him to spend a solid half hour jumping up and down on your bed while you're MNetting on your laptop.

AnneUulmelmahay · 07/09/2013 10:06

Crikey moses at dividing cereal along gender lines

By this token I guess a fry up is for the Menz

EverybodysStressyEyed · 07/09/2013 10:07

You're both weird - in my office the 'girls' eat porridge, a few of the 'men' eat fruit and fibre or Special K and the balance have some sort of cooked

whois · 07/09/2013 10:07

My porridge is pink so he probably wouldn't like that... 59g porridge oats, 280ml water, handful frozen raspberries. Microwave for 3 mins. Stir and stand for 2. You get a lovely raspberry pink bowl full of yummyness.

Squitten · 07/09/2013 10:09

Considering any cereal to be gender-biased is very stupid.

I assume he considers bacon and eggs, made by you, to be the only suitably manly food...?

moogy1a · 07/09/2013 10:10

I'm guessing that girly breakfasts are any which imply healthy diet / weightloss .
there again porridge is very healthy.
I'll ask him if steak and eggs would be more manly.

Oh well, if it's only cereals you divide into gender lines, you're clearly not bonkers at all! Grin

Lazyjaney · 07/09/2013 10:11

Porridge is neuter, Omelettes are feminine, English breakfasts are greasy.

juneybean · 07/09/2013 10:12

Oh god, don't give Kelloggs any ideas we will end up with pink and blue boxes.

moogy1a · 07/09/2013 10:12

Actually, it's not just cereal that I think have genders.
I must admit that a steak and kidney pudding would scream man to me.
Maybe I should be French where they have official genders for everything.
I'm going to look up French words for various foods and see if there's a gender difference!

Where do we stand on crumpets? Me and DP both had them this morning. I need to know which of us was wrong.

moogy1a · 07/09/2013 10:14

OK.
porridge is feminine, and steak is masculine in French.
This isn't helping me is it?! Grin

moogy1a · 07/09/2013 10:16

Crumpets are man food. Definintely.
Would you agree that cupcakes are a girl food?

WillieWaggledagger · 07/09/2013 10:18

"Porridge" is masculine in French (foreign word in French usually are)

moogy1a · 07/09/2013 10:20

I eat porridge most days. My DH prefers muesli or bran flakes and sometimes Special K.

I quite enjoy a fry up from time to time. DH hates fry ups and likes a continental breakfast.

Do we need to swap roles? Do we need gender reassignment surgery?
