Family photos in the home.....

Are they tacky? I think my parents thought they were and consequently, we had none on display of anyone.

What do you do? Do you have lots of nuclear family/you and dh only, or are there lots of extended family too?

Maybe it's a class issue - I always see loads in upper class homes and in more working class households too.....

I have what I call my Rogue's Gallery wall of our family. It includes grandparents, nieces and nephews and our immediate family.

I don't have any pictures of my brothers and sisters except one group shot from 10 years ago! Just their kids!

I don't care if it's tacky or not. I like them.

I have 1 of my dad - no longer with us
4 of the kids when they were babies, 1 in a frame and 3 grouped together on the wall in 1 frame
1 school photo
1 of me and dc on a logflume in Blackpool (first day out on my own with them as a LP)

No photos anywhere else of anyone.

I have loads, I love them.

My parents never had any (no, that's an exaggeration, there were 2 very staged family photos - small and tucked away on a bookshelf)

I suspect my parents think photos, especially big ones on display is tacky. I love reminders of different parts of our life, especially the kids growing up.

I don't know about class, grew up mc/as were most friends and most houses had photos.

I prefer photos in frames on tables/sideboards etc. I have friends/family/godchildren and departed pets.

But I have a gallery of DS from baby to present going all the way up my staircase.

I don't have many out on view but we recently decided to put a "gallery" in the hall. Only two pictures up so far!

Don't know about class, my (fairly middle class) family always had family photos on display and I like them too.

My in-laws (also middle class) have barely any... just a few tucked away in places guests wouldn't really go to. I find it a bit odd TBH, nothing wrong with it but not something I'm used to. They at least printed one of our wedding photos and put it up, whereupon my BIL gave them a photo of him and his girlfriend too. None of poor SIL and her boyfriend though...

As long as you have them in silver frames, cluttered all over the top of agrand piano, it's absolutely fine

I have a collage thing of my ds, made from photos we took in his first year or so. I hate with a passion those studio shots that are all the rage, no real reason for hating them but I do feel they are tacky. And a rip-off!

I have a bit of a wall downstairs with photos. They're all 6x4 in white frames. Some of the kids, my parents as kids, etc. Am sure someone somewhere doesn't like it . What can I say they match my leather sofas and IKEA furnished downstairs

We do a photo collage every year and have them on display around the house alongside several individual framed photos we like. I love nosing at other family photos in people's homes and don't find them at all tacky.

I have lots of photos, but all in nice frames, so it looks lovely and homely. My parents are firm believers in displaying every horrific fashion choice moment of our lives, and have all different sizes and colours of frames on the wall up the stairs. Known as the wall of shame :). It actually looks great, but it does mean guests take hours to go to the loo as they end up looking at them.
My mum doesnt 100% trust memory cards/hard drives and likes to print them off.

I seriously don't get why it's seen as ok to have portraits of dead ancestors (or other people ancestors) on the walls as they didn't have photography then, but not the done thing to have a few family photos up which probably make you smile more when you look at them. But then again I have twiggy crap in a vase............

I think photos are great and make a house really homey but not if they are those awful Venture photos on massive canvasses on the wall. Sorry I do think those are a bit tacky...

on here, they are much derided.
I believe one is "allowed" a few silver-framed snapshots on top of the grand piano.

back in the real world, pretty much everyone I know, from Old Money ambassadorial types to skint old me, has a photo or two up on the walls.

We have allot of pics of the kids up. And two of our wedding. In our room we have a few slushy holiday photos of DH and i kissing or standing together on the beach.

My DPs never had many photos up at all. Now my father has passed away and my mum is in her 70s she has loads up. Of her and DF, me and my XH () one of me and DH, etc.

MIL has lots up of her GC. And big graduation photos of the 3 of her 4 children who have degrees.

I only have a few photos on the mantlepiece, one of the four of us, one of DH in his uniform, one of DS1 and I and DS1 on his own.

I want to decorate my hall and put lots of photos up.

Actually, I have one of DH and I on our wedding day on the landing.

I've just counted 15 frames in our living room alone! We also have a big canvas collage of our wedding pictures on our stairs, and a few in the hallway, kitchen and dining room. They're of extended family & close friends, we live a few hours away from most of them, so I love having pictures around.

I think the division is whether on the wall or on the sideboard.

I only have one on the wall, but lots on shelves and tables.

oh this is one of those U/non-U indicators isn't it?

I think the U thing was photos on surfaces only and never on walls.

However, as my family and I are strictly non-U, I've got quite a few nice ones up on the wall as memories of happy times

My parents have always had photos of us as babies and more recently my wedding around the house. But they're all in nice old mis-matched frames, which I like. Goes nice with their old higgledy piggledy house.

We have them. I don't care if anyone else thinks they're non-U or whatever they're supposed to be. Ours are on the wall. They're mostly of the kids because they're much more photogenic than either of us.

I visit lots of houses, and in many houses I have seen huge, professional photos of the family.

In some houses, these seem to be the only pictures on the walls at all!

I remember a comment in a book called "The Temp" that on office desks, there are far more pictures of children than of partners.
