to not understand why Charles Manson is in prison?

Maybe I haven't looked into the case deep enough or have a good enough understanding.

But from what I can gather he never actually killed anyone. And yes he might have brainwashed his followers who did murder those 7 people but surely they are accountable for their own actions?

I'm not saying he's a good person who doesn't deserve to be there, I'm just confused as to what he was charged with to be in prison for the rest of his life.

Then perhaps you should look into the case then

YouStayClassySanDiego · 01/09/2013 12:53

Read all about him and get a better understanding of what happened.

Pagwatch · 01/09/2013 12:53

I think you should look into the case tbh.

I think he should never come out after what he caused to happen to Sharon Tate and her unborn child.

janey68 · 01/09/2013 12:55

Erm... Because he's been convicted of conspiracy to commit murders?

HTH

AnyoneButLulu · 01/09/2013 12:58

I'm not an expert on the case and don't want to be, but in England being an accessory before the fact (aidjng, abetting, counselling or procuring) to murder is punishable on exactly the same basis as doing the deed. Happens all the time.

MrsWilberforce · 01/09/2013 12:59

All over the world (including here) there are people unjustly imprisoned. I wonder why you would concern yourself with Manson?

Forgetfulmog · 01/09/2013 12:59

Conspiracy to commit murder is tried and has the same consequences as someone who actually commits the crime.

Icedink · 01/09/2013 13:00

He actually was convicted of murder due to an american law that holds all parties responsible if there was conspiracy which led to one person actually carrying out the crime. He should never get out imo, he may not have physically killed anyone but he is a very dangerous man!

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 01/09/2013 13:01

Erm... pretty sure he DID kill people Confused not those at the mansion directly maybe, but he WAS responsible for those murders too.

HatieKokpins · 01/09/2013 13:01

Easy. If it wasn't for him, those people wouldn't be dead. I suggest you do some reading.

friday16 · 01/09/2013 13:03

Instnat Godwin, I'm afraid.

Eichmann didn't commit, order or supervise any killings.

Should he, therefore, not have been prosecuted?

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 13:04

He ordered multiple murders, does there need to be any more reason??

LuckyStrikes · 01/09/2013 13:04

Damn you people are quite mean. I was asking as a discussion so I could get a better understanding.

I'm not a Manson supporter and don't want him released.

Now I understand, theres no reason to be so nasty about it.

OP posts:
issey6cats · 01/09/2013 13:05

its because he still has a strong following and if allowed out could have enough clout to start a family again like he did in the sixties

sonlypuppyfat · 01/09/2013 13:06

Nasty! He tried to start a race war !

LuckyStrikes · 01/09/2013 13:07

I wonder why you would concern yourself with Manson?

What's wrong with wanting a better understanding of something? I'm not concerned about him in the slightest geez.

There were other people in that "family" that walked away completely free.

I was interested to start a discussion. I'm hardly starting up a petition to get him released Hmm

OP posts:
LuckyStrikes · 01/09/2013 13:08

Nasty! He tried to start a race war !

Have I defended him? No. Said he was a good person? No. Defended his actions? No.

I was asking a question. Simple as.

OP posts:
LuckyStrikes · 01/09/2013 13:10

Anyway I got my answer.

If you want to keep being so nasty then go ahead and enjoy your Sunday.

MrsWilberforce · 01/09/2013 13:10

I didn't say 'concerned about' I said 'concern with' ie use your time on this case when there are so many many more deserving ones.

Pretty ironic to start a thread on such a subject and then get all touchy about it!

MurderOfGoths · 01/09/2013 13:12

You asked why a convicted murderer was in prison, and you are surprised that people pointed out it was a silly question?

FreudiansSlipper · 01/09/2013 13:13

you do need to read up more

very very destructive, controlling, manipulative man. i do not like to use the word evil but what he manipulated others to do is

is an interesting case to read and an insight how cults form their leaders, members etc and how they can, not always of course, be very destructive

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/09/2013 13:13

Bit touchy op??

Forgetfulmog · 01/09/2013 13:15

Oh stop throwing your toys out of the pram OP. I've read the thread & can't see anyone being nasty to you. I suggest you bugger off to Nethuns if you can't take the heat Grin

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 01/09/2013 13:16

You start a thread wondering why someone who caused the horrific deaths of 7 people is in prison... AND ACCUSE OTHERS OF BEING NASTY?

Pagwatch · 01/09/2013 13:16

Have you read what happened to Sharon Tate?
That she begged them to take her hostage so that she could deliver her baby in two week and then kill her - just to let her baby live.

And you wonder why people are a bit aghast at your not understanding why he is in prison?
