Was a massive fan of rolf harris in the 1980s watching his art shows after school. I cant believe he has now been charged with activity from the 1980 to last year. Am i being unreasonable to be upset on hearing this news despite the fact ive never meet him.

There is already a thread about it . :)

I agree its a shock.

HeySoulSister · 29/08/2013 12:56

It's the third thread on it

Why are you shocked?

youmeatsix · 29/08/2013 12:57

i said exactly the same thing. Jimmy saville was always a bit Confused but rolf harris seemed a genuinely nice man, Sad

OHforDUCKScake · 29/08/2013 12:57

NO. He is actually charged now?

I didn't think it would happen. I didn't believe it.

So let me get this straight, is this charge one against women or children?

Rolf Harris charged with nine counts of indecent assault in the 1980s and four of making indecent images of a child in 2012 Sad court next month

livinginwonderland · 29/08/2013 13:03

I'm not shocked. I did say that when it came up in the news before, but I got a barrage of criticism from everyone on here for it.

CocacolaMum · 29/08/2013 13:04

that's shocked me. I honestly didn't believe it either

BiscuitDunker · 29/08/2013 13:04

He's being charged with:

Six offences of indecent assault relating to a girl aged between 15 and 16 from 1980 to 1981.

Three offences of indecent assault relating to a girl aged 14, in 1986.

Four offences of making indecent images of a child between March and July 2012.

ClartyCarol · 29/08/2013 13:05

Why are you being unreasonable to hear it? Hmm

Feminine · 29/08/2013 13:06

I think its shocking if you were a child when you watched him on TV.

You then look at him as a kid today -can't believe it maybe?

looking at him from the eyes of an adult( perhaps) would always have been different?

I think for those of us that grew up in the 70'S and always had those characters on the TV , it would be weird not to be surprised.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 29/08/2013 13:07

I always saw him as such a legend, saw him at Glastonbury and he was brilliant. How disappointing, and horrible for those involved.

I'm not sure what yabu about.

I am sure there will be many more to come unfortunately.

HeySoulSister · 29/08/2013 13:10

No. I'm 44 and grew up watching him too. It's still no surprise to me.... I found him irritating. Too enthusiastic, over zealous.

ViviPru · 29/08/2013 13:10

I know what you mean, OP.

All the others you're like, yeah - filthster, that's no surprise but RH was part of the fabric of my childhood culture in a way all the others really weren't. I'm shocked in the same way I would be had Johnny Ball or Tony Hart been charged, all childhood beacons of wholesomeness Sad

HeySoulSister · 29/08/2013 13:10

What do you mean by him having a wife op???

Feminine · 29/08/2013 13:12

hey then you probably never liked him IYSWIM?

Did you actually suspect him of what he has been charged with? :)

I didn't like JS, when he was found out , it was no shocker.

To my mind, Rolf just painted Confused

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 29/08/2013 13:12

I'm not shocked. The 70's and 80's (my childhood) seem to have actually been a time of real nastiness lurking underneath the surface.

My smile looks odd, I meant it so as not to look argumentative.

I'm reserving judgement until he has actually gone to trial.

HeySoulSister · 29/08/2013 13:15

When JS stuff came out I had a trip down memory lane ( maybe here on MN actually) and there are quite a few children's tv people from back then who wouldn't surprise me if similar came out about them.
