Just read my friends update on FB.
"Robin Thicke is coming to my hometown......yippee!"
I commented that he was an arse whose view of women was completely wrong, and I was surprised that she was looking forwards to his visit.
She replied that his song lyrics and video were "just a bit of fun" and I needed to chill out.
I am slightly unchilled to say the least and did not want to get into a huge argument with her on FB. But I am quite shocked by her reaction. AIBU?

YABU because she is entitled to her opinion (even if its the opinion of a fool)

YANBU because he is a bit of a twat and deserves a junk punch

yabu its her f/b she can say what she likes Confused

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2013 00:55

YABU

I take it she's an adult who doesn't need a lecture from another adult about what she posts on her own timeline?

Just scroll past and accept that everyone is different.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/08/2013 00:57

Yabu.

She has a different opinion to you.

If you want to lecture people about Robin Thicke use ^your own* Facebook page.

FutTheShuckUp · 25/08/2013 00:58

Worra. Wish there was a like button for your post

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/08/2013 00:59

  • bold fail. Blush

Not saying I think you're wrong in your thinking but y'know - use your own Facebook to comment on things that bother you.

mynameisslimshady · 25/08/2013 01:00

Ywbu really. She is as entitled to like him as you are to dislike him and it's a bit weird to lecture another adult about their musical tastes.

Aside from that he is just another singer trying to stir up controversy to further his career, and with the outrage there has been he has certainly achieved that. Everyone would have been better ignoring it, I bet he will come out with something even worse next time to stir up more of a fuss now he has seen all the free advertising it gets. It has been done time and time and time again, year after year, it's quite tiresome.

Greythorne · 25/08/2013 01:03

Yanbu at all.

I would not be friends with a handmaiden to the patriarchy Robin Fuckwit.

musicismylife · 25/08/2013 01:07

Op, yanbu.

I find it strange that last week there was a thread on here saying it was unreasonable to listen/like to blurred lines.

This week, YOU are being unreasonable, OP, for explaining to your mate why robin thicke is a twat.

Surely if OP's mate likes robin thicke, she has based that on his songs,
one of them being blurred lines Hmm

thismousebites · 25/08/2013 01:22

Think I should point out that I'm not trying to tell her who to listen to re music choices (we can't all like one direction).
But I was a bit surprised as she has always been a very strong and independent woman.? She has a teenage daughter too and I thought How would she feel if a boy said/sang this crap to her daughte. Would she be so gung ho then?r
Yes I did initially scroll past, but then thought, No and scrolled back up again.

thismousebites · 25/08/2013 01:28

Should also say that she's always been the type to share or like posts that are a bit "Don't let any man tell you how to live" people, IYSWIM.
so this comment has made me think she's going back on all that now.
I've always veiwed her as the strong, take no shit woman, but now i'm not so sure.

YABU for being involved in the fuckwittery that is Facebook.

flummoxedlummox · 25/08/2013 02:25

Nowt as queer as folk, I gave up trying to understand my fellow man/woman long ago. I agree yabu but understandably so.

catgirl1976 · 25/08/2013 07:56

YABU

She's entitled to like Robin Thicke

You should have ignored and maybe said in person "I was surprised you liked him given xxx"

BeetleBugBaby · 25/08/2013 07:59

Oh can you all get over this Robin Thicke bollocks, it is really getting old now ffs.

catgirl1976 · 25/08/2013 08:01

phantomhairpuller · 25/08/2013 08:03

ANOTHER thread about Robin Thicke?!

For a bunch of women who hate him so, you don't have give him a lot of air time Confused

catgirl1976 · 25/08/2013 08:04

I don't hate him

I rather fancy him but fear I would get lynched on here for that

exoticfruits · 25/08/2013 08:07

He's the Blurred Lines singer and the lyrics are offensive to a lot of people

CaptainJamesTKirk · 25/08/2013 08:18

YABU she can like who she wants to. Grow up!

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 25/08/2013 08:22

He's fit!

You ever listened to anything beyond blurred lines?

Oh, a yab very fucking unreasonable.

peggyblackett · 25/08/2013 08:22

YANBU. I would struggle to be friends with someone who got excited by a visit by Robin Thicke. Urghh.
