To poo in a public toilet?

ThePortlyPinUp · 18/08/2013 00:08

Can't be arse to name change so here goes,

We've been out to our local social club for the evening, I went to the toilet and couldn't help but poo whilst I had a wee. My friends dc's (age 9-10) made a comment when I rejoined the table and asked if I'd had a poo, they made a bit of a song and dance about it all and I felt embarrass but brazened it out and said that at least I'd used the toilet and not shit on the table which I'm fairly sure would be anti sociable. Best friends do then took the piss too, so an ibu by using the public convience when I had no other option?!

Of course you aren't. They are being extremely rude by mentioning it. If my child had mentioned it, I would have upbraided him for being so rude.

Don't give it another thought.

hiddenhome · 18/08/2013 00:11

Blimey, what a stupid thing to go on about. Your friends must be a bit thick to think this is a reasonable thing to talk about esp in public. What the heck do they think toilets are for?

MsHighwater · 18/08/2013 00:12

Em, no, YANBU. When you have to go, you have to go. Public toilets can handle poo. I'd be concerned about the rudeness of the child, tho. I'd be livid if my dd spoke to any adult like that.

ThePortlyPinUp · 18/08/2013 00:14

Phew I'm glad in not being unreasonable, I usually can't go unless in my own home so I felt embarrassed enough already and was hoping that no one had noticed. If my dc's had said it I'd have been mortified.

Dp said he was embarrassed for me and couldn't believe the fuss they made (putting their faces in their jumpers) :(

Why on earth were they asking you? That's really rude!

My mum has major issues with going in a public place and passed that on to me. I hate it so much if I have to go in a public toilet. I'm determinednot to do the the same to DD.

When you gotta go you gotta go! What would they prefer you to do? Shit your pants? Rush off home? Get constipated and make yourself ill?

MissMuesli · 18/08/2013 00:16

I try my hardest to not poo in public, but if you need to go then its clearly unavoidable! I'd be quite cross at the children not being told off for a complete lack of manners! YANBU

ouryve · 18/08/2013 00:17

The perfect place for "did you mean to be so rude?"

Wtf are toilets for if not to piss and shit in?

drinkyourmilk · 18/08/2013 00:19

Good grief. That's what a toilet is for! I honestly don't understand why it is a social faux pas. YANBU!
Your friends and their child are, however, very rude.

BlingBang · 18/08/2013 00:19

i have no shame, i'll poo in any loo.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 18/08/2013 00:20

YANBU.

Don't worry about the children, they are all obsessed with poo, my dd googled poo earlier and she's only 4!?!?

Your friend who carried it on sounds like a bit of a dick though....

K8Middleton · 18/08/2013 00:24

Whatever happened to people minding their own business?

sooperdooper · 18/08/2013 08:17

Yanbu, why on earth did they go in about it?? How odd and rude of them!

Cheesyslice · 18/08/2013 08:21

How bloody rude.

If my child made a comment like that I would be mortified

dashoflime · 18/08/2013 08:21

I honestly had no idea people thought this until I overheard some people at my work bitching about the disgusting people who poo in the toilets and leave the cubicles smelling!

Its ridiculous. They're toilets.

lljkk · 18/08/2013 08:48

I would have been so embarrassed if my children had said that. DS is a rather immature 9yo & I suppose he could blurt something out like that. Poor you!!

alwaysinamuckingfuddle · 18/08/2013 08:53

I prefer not to but sometimes you just have to go!

Horrible brats! I'm so glad I do not have children the more I hear about other people's...

ThePortlyPinUp · 18/08/2013 09:30

Thanks everyone I'm feeling less embarrassed about it now after reading all of your comments.

It's very playground isn't it?

I must admit it took me a long time to get out of the mindset that using the toilet is embarrassing in some way Hmm and when I thought about it, it does stem from school.

The women (from 30-60) in my office still behave like school girls at times so I've taken to witheringly pointing out it's a fucking toilet, you're meant to piss and shit in it and if you go in there expecting to sniff channel no. 5 you're a moron.

As long as you don't leave it dirty do what you're meant to in there and anyone (including kids) who wants to discuss it can enlighten you on what toilets are for otherwise.

ToffeeWhirl · 18/08/2013 09:49

The women in your office are insensitive idiots by the sound of it. What do they do if they need to poo - go home? Confused

The only people who need to feel embarrassed are the children and their parents who were so incredibly rude to you last night. Definitely not you, op. And it sounds as if the children were simply modelling their behaviour on their parent's behaviour. Not their fault if no one explains what they're doing wrong.

Fairylea · 18/08/2013 09:59

Wow how rude of them.

My mum has crohns disease and often has uncontrollable bouts of dioareah when we have been out together, ending up in her rushing to the nearest toilet. She is embarrassed enough anyway and people can be so rude in public toilets. Yeah I understand it's not pleasant for other people but the way people carry on you'd think she'd shit in their tea.
It's poo. It's a toilet. Where else is it supposed to go?

Sometimes it's not always possible to wait!

Iamsparklyknickers · 18/08/2013 10:01

Toffeewhirl yes! Apparently Hmm

A couple of them have IBS and still witter on about only using their own toilet. Madness I tell you!

Although I did work with one woman who impressed me - she would stop herself mid flow if she heard anyone come into the bathroom. I can only dream of pelvic muscles that could do that for any length of time!

usualsuspect · 18/08/2013 10:01

How did they know?

ViviDeBeauvoir · 18/08/2013 10:02

As long as you didn't do it on the floor YANBU

Very rude behaviour to embarrass you like that!

usualsuspect · 18/08/2013 10:03

I would have told them to mind their own business.
