How much money does David Beckham need (FFS)?

I keep seeing the advert Dave's doing for Sky (and quite like it actually, love the track, and the suggestion he's got a messy kitchen Grin As if.) and wonder why he bothers.

He's getting £20m for a five year contract with Sky, I know the bloke's got to feed himself/clothe his family, and his security bill must be astronomical, but he must have shed loads anyway (going on my imagined acquaintance with his financial affairs) is he still spurred on by the cash do you think?

Or does he just want be useful, after a career of kicking a bloody ball around because it's portrayed as getting children involved in sport, and if the cash is there why the fuck not?

Maybe he just wants to get as much security as he can for his children?

Anyone know him intimately and willing to dish?

(I'd be satisfied with posters making it up as per MNs usual rules of posting)

The business they are in needs them to maintain a certain profile. People are not going to pay big bucks for their charity auction/dinners/events if there is less celebrity 'stardust' around them. Same with Victoria in the fashion business. This is dependent upon perceived glamour and that is how she publicises her lines. If she became invisible then the fashion line would suffer. Everybody who works with them speaks very highly of them. They are apparently very well mannered, treat their staff very well. Victoria goes out of her way to help her employees cope with child care even setting up child care in the building so staff can bring their children in. And that is £££ for a small business to do.

She'll always be Posh Spice to me. I do wonder about her true fashion credentials though.

They're a rich and successful couple, good luck to them, but they're not The Second Coming.

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 03:14

Do you know something about TSC that we don't? Grin

'Victoria goes out of her way to help her employees cope with child care even setting up child care in the building so staff can bring their children in. And that is £££ for a small business to do.'

Oh come one, her fashion label is not a 'small business', and Brand Beckham is very bloody far from being a 'small business'.

Don't worry mignonette I think they can just about afford it Hmm

Shock

Maybe TSC is 'The Second Coming'. Hmmmm, she does have a certain confidence about her.........................

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 03:26

They could probably afford it with the change down the back of their settee.

Bet they've even got a better standard of dusty half chewed food an' all

I'll keep my eye on the mail for TSC's outing, just in case, of course.

Her fashion label is classed as a fledgling business Squosh and probably isn't making that much of a profit yet. Seriously, the level of investment needed to get off the ground even with backing means it takes years to really get going. Even very famous established brands only stay in profit because their perfumes support the couture and RTW. And Beckhams level of detail is approaching couture. Expensive yes. But close up the work is beautiful for somebody like me who admires the craft. And when you hear Victoria talk about the technical side of fashion, you can see she knows her onions. Anna Wintour wouldn't give her the tine of day otherwise. And they are self made. Not inherited. No nepotism to get where they are. Just hard work. And we need to celebrate that in a country where who your mummy and daddy are and what school you went to still guarantees the rise of the mediocre.

JakeBullet · 10/08/2013 10:54

Leaving aside the whole "how much does he need" stuff.

I like both of them....they do an enormous amount for various charities and much which is never publicised. I know of at least one severely disabled child who was bought a fantastic bed costing thousands which the NHS could not fund but the Beckham's did.....with the only proviso being "no publicity". I only know because I am a relative.

Nospringchickendipper · 10/08/2013 10:54

I think he looks sexy wearing his tux but when he is showing off his tattoos he looks awful. Why has he done this to his body .

ComposHat · 10/08/2013 11:15

I don't think I could retire, not totally anyway. I'd become a lazy bum, balloon to about fifty stone and never get out of bed.

I'm doing a PhD and hope to get an academic job, so my job and interests would be closely aligned.

allmycats · 10/08/2013 12:21

Tis jealousy IMO

Me and DH were just discussing this. I think he just likes being in the public eye.

And I agree that he is looking mighty fine these days!

MrsCampbellBlack · 10/08/2013 12:30

I really hope he continues to work on those adverts, even my dc's shout 'mummy its that man you like' when they're on.

And he does do a lot for charity - didn't he give all his last lot of footballing wages away for example?

Thing is to most of us they're super-rich but they're not billionaires are they? I bet that's what VB is aspiring to?

cocolepew · 10/08/2013 12:36

He did give all his wages away but had struck a deal with the selling if his football shirt , through the gift shop, that netted him much, much more than his wages. But its a win win really, the charity still got money.

Never mind him anyhoo. WTAF is Al Pacino doing Sky adverts for!? Al Bloody Pacino! Shock

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 21:28

I've just seen Kev Bacon advertising something or other, and Bruce Willis does some internet thingy advert.

What's going on there then? Maybe because they were made to be cinema adverts? There's no need for them to try to break into the brit market is there?

'I like looking at David Beckham.'

I did lol at that statement of fact Grin

I know that they quietly give a lot away. They buy a lot of specialist equipment for children with disabilities that is not available on the NHS. They don't publicize this but occasionally the parents of the children have told the media that they did it.
