How much money does David Beckham need (FFS)?

I keep seeing the advert Dave's doing for Sky (and quite like it actually, love the track, and the suggestion he's got a messy kitchen Grin As if.) and wonder why he bothers.

He's getting £20m for a five year contract with Sky, I know the bloke's got to feed himself/clothe his family, and his security bill must be astronomical, but he must have shed loads anyway (going on my imagined acquaintance with his financial affairs) is he still spurred on by the cash do you think?

Or does he just want be useful, after a career of kicking a bloody ball around because it's portrayed as getting children involved in sport, and if the cash is there why the fuck not?

Maybe he just wants to get as much security as he can for his children?

Anyone know him intimately and willing to dish?

(I'd be satisfied with posters making it up as per MNs usual rules of posting)

'My mum set fire to his football boots when he was thirty and bought him some golf clubs.'

It's good to have clear ideas about where you want to be in life Grin

I've said to DH that we should get a motorbike and cruise when we're old fuckers, it's just something you say isn't it Sal?

I can't be arsed going into the next town let alone around Europe.

HoneyDragon · 10/08/2013 00:51

My Aunt and Uncle retired at 45 and bought a camper van and have spent the last 30 years wandering around Europe for 6 months at a time.

We get intermittent phone calls for really exciting events. Like if my Aunty takes her cardigan off.

[i have no normal family emoticon]

Salmotrutta · 10/08/2013 00:52

Oh DH is deadly serious about the RV Agent. Shock

Deadly.

And he'll just go and do it.

I'll come home one day and it'll be there. In the drive.

HoneyDragon · 10/08/2013 00:53

You should get bikes. We have a bike festival here and I love all the retired couples with massive Harley's wandering round. Smile

antimatter · 10/08/2013 00:54

maybe he likes being in the center of attention?
if his only interest ever eas fitness - he can't do that full-time as he gets older
he has 4 kids & lotos of other pope on his payroll - so he's cashing in when he can

Salmotrutta · 10/08/2013 00:56

DH has had several motor bikes.

He would turn his nose up at a Harley.

His favourite bike was his BMW...

Salmotrutta · 10/08/2013 00:57

Beecham has a Pope on his payroll??? Shock

Salmotrutta · 10/08/2013 00:58

Beckham not Beecham Hmm

HoneyDragon · 10/08/2013 01:02

Maybe that's why the last pope retired? To go work for Becks?

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 01:03

He's missing the point a bit if he rides off into the sunset on his BMW leaving you at home Sal.

Does it not appeal to you at all?

What about if you could plan where you went and could go to all the places you've fancied but never got round to? Rome, Pompeii, Via Appia, Herculaneum, Lindisfarne Grin to name a couple of mine.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 10/08/2013 01:04

Well, working for Becks is probably a better gig than all that Vatican malarkey...

not entirely joking

Salmotrutta · 10/08/2013 01:07

I've been to most of them Agent

I'd go to Istanbul, Venice, Berlin, Granada and Naples.

Then I'd start on Africa.

MariaLuna · 10/08/2013 01:15

Maybe he just wants to get as much security as he can for his children?

That's the thing tho, isn't it?

Being famous and having children you never have that security - kidnap, etc.

Never mind those kids can never grow up "normal" and walk to school for instance...

I wouldn't mind being rich Grin but I would never want to be famous (for all the money in the world).

You never know either which nanny/security is going to dish the dirt and make a mint out of you...
and as for the kids, how can they know someone loves them for themselves when they grow up.

Ugh, what a way to live.

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 01:21

I've been to Rome a couple of times, but I wasn't immersed in the masters of rome series at the time Grin

That's a bit of a list you've got there, I'd be tempted to at least cost it up.

But what would you do if you fell out with the other person? I bet Dave would have that problem at his lofty heights of fame, a bit isolating. I'm not going to feel sorry for him cos he's loaded and can pay someone to solve any isolation problems he might have Grin

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 01:26

Grin at you not minding having wads Maria. If it was forced on you do you mean? Grin

I've always thought I'd still live in a modest house if I was loaded, it's just a scrote magenet else, and I don't think I could get to grips with the huge spaces between you/bathroom/bedroom/spooky noise.

Arisbottle · 10/08/2013 01:27

If I had enough money and could convince DH I would stop working now .

mignonette · 10/08/2013 01:45

He runs those football academies and does other charity stuff via his foundation. I think he is trying to build a legacy. We should be proud of them both- hard working ,successful, representing the UK in a positive manner, a solid family life and from what I have heard, their children are beautifully behaved.

CoolStoryBro · 10/08/2013 01:46

He isn't even 40, so I doubt he wants to fully retire yet. Funnily enough, we have very, very wealthy (ie much wealthier than the Beckhams) friends and he has no interest in retiring at all. It's what he loves. But, nobody questions that.

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 01:53

Is the money just a by-product of them doing something they'd choose to do anyway do you think Cool, or does that drive them into enjoying the 'game' more than if they weren't getting a bean for it?

What about the status/standing that cash can bring? That the expensive things they have (clothes/cars/house) say things about them before they've even spoken to someone? That there's a positive image of the person without them having to actually do anything? (they must be hard working/clever/jammy to be that successful)

I love the beckhams, they do loads for charity, especially sports ones but not always in the way you'd think.

They asked a local lad In a wheelchair to help design a new super light chair for a particular sport, he went along and did so and they then presented it as his chair so he could carry on in sport. He didnt meet them personally but it was their money that financed that.

By all accounts they put lots into the charity pot and try and help out. I genuinely like them both.

CorrineFoxworth · 10/08/2013 02:06

I can't fancy David because he reminds me of my DS at the the end of the day when he has practically coloured himself in with felt-tip pen.

I'd hate to have to do his laundry but then perhaps Victoria keeps him half-naked when he is at home.

Still wouldn't.

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 02:07

Yeah, seeing how he is with star struck and therefore shy/awkward children meeting him, he has got a great way with them.

He's comes across as a bit shy himself with them, and it's endearing.

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 02:09

'Victoria keeps him half-naked when he is at home.'

And there goes another internet rumour off to make its rounds Grin

OP posts:
mignonette · 10/08/2013 02:13

Despite the massive sales Victoria's fashion line has achieved it is likely that there is yet to be a huge profit turned yet. Even Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Christopher Kane failed to make a profit from their clothing until they were brought out by LMVH. It is perfumes/sunglasses etc that make the money. I know somebody in the fashion industry and Victoria is genuinely at the helm of her business and and the heart of the creative process. She is not a figurehead. I think they are fabulous.

AgentZigzag · 10/08/2013 02:22

They're both unashamed attention seekers Grin

Which is big business really, the people they pay to deflect attention onto them must be worth their weight.

I bet they've got a nine gold bar stashed somewhere just for the hell of it.

I would.
