DD (16) eating ice cream, she puts the spoon in her mouth sucks half of the ice cream off as she pulls the spoon out, then puts it back in and eats the rest.

I find it revolting and after asking several times, I did shout Blush

I have seen this a lot, there is a really nice ice cream parlour near where we stay on the coast and it is always full of people doing that!

That's how I eat it Blush I have sensitive teeth and that way doesn't seem to hurt as much.

meganorks · 07/08/2013 19:02

Yeah pretty sure I do that too. No one takes s big mouthful in one go surely?!

sagfold · 07/08/2013 19:03

It's one of the great pleasures of life - don't deny her. You'll save her a bomb in counselling in the long-run Smile

OfficerMeow · 07/08/2013 19:06

Take it off her if she cannot eat it properly. My pet hate is people that cannot eat properly.

Flobbadobs · 07/08/2013 19:07

She's savouring it! I do that too..

twilight3 · 07/08/2013 19:12

how is it any more revolting that an ice lolly?
if it bothers you take it away, but being 16 she can probably go and have another one... I'm not sure there's much you can do tbh...

DH does that sometimes, until I yell at him.

Minshu · 07/08/2013 19:18

Have you tried not watching her?

LRDYaDumayuShtoTiKrasiviy · 07/08/2013 19:20

I think maybe you need to say, 'I find this horrible'. She can learn you don't like it. That's ok, surely?

It isn't fundamentally unusual as a think to do, but if it really upsets you, the honest thing to do is to say that, not to pretend it is what everyone thinks. I admit, I don't have kids so you must of course ignore this if it's stupid advice - but I don't see the issue with explaining that mummy doesn't like this so it's rude.

Surely this is something all children learn in the end?

Riddo · 07/08/2013 19:22

DH does that with yogurt. It makes me feel sick but after 21 years he's not going to change so I just don't look.

OutragedFromLeeds · 07/08/2013 19:32

That is a normal way to eat ice cream!

DoJo · 07/08/2013 19:33

I don't really see the problem with what she's doing, but agree that asking her not to do it in front of you rather than expecting her not to eat like that at all is probably more likely to get results.

BrianButterfield · 07/08/2013 19:46

That's how I eat it. I hate having a big heap of ice cream up to the roof of my mouth - all you can feel is cold and you don't taste it.

Lanceolate · 07/08/2013 19:47

It is gross.

Buy her a box of cones. Tell her she can't have a spoon until she uses it properly.

Lanceolate · 07/08/2013 19:48

To everyone who does it, why not put less on the spoon.

WorraLiberty · 07/08/2013 19:50

Why not stop watching her so she can eat how she pleases?

littlewhitebag · 07/08/2013 19:52

My DD age15 eats a variety of things like that. I tell her off constantly but she just rolls her eyes gives me the 'look' and continues as she was. I have decided not to sweat it as she is a lovely girl. She just likes to savor her food!

Doingakatereddy · 07/08/2013 19:55

Perhaps your daughter should wait till you do something she dislikes, then shout at you in public?

badguider · 07/08/2013 19:57

ice cream seems to be one of the few things it's socially acceptable to 'lick' in public Grin

just dont' watch.

can I join in? DH is a noisy soup-slurper - drives me flippin nuts it does!

Thankfully he has many redeeming qualities, so I can overlook this even though it makes me want to Grrrr!

SupermansBigRedPants · 07/08/2013 20:04

At least she doesn't chew it my mother and now my dd both put ice cream in their mouths and instead of eating normally like your dd does and every other person ever except a few MNers they bite into every mouthful and freaking chew!! not normal. not right.

That is minging! Who wants to see your half eaten food?

If you can't eat a great big mouthful, then take a smaller bit on your spoon! It's not rocket science!
