To think THE most British TV programme is Sherlock

It just so is! The self deprecation, the obfuscation, the silly humour, the sending themselves up, the grumpiness ...

Go, beat me - tells me there's a TV programme more British.

Can't think of one, just tell me - I haven't missed the start of the new series have I? DH is watching Tour De France and I can't check the guide!

LaurieFairyCake · 21/07/2013 20:24

No, it's just repeating at the moment. Not missed one Smile

And Benedict Cumbersnatch yes yes, I know that's not really his name! is WONDERFUL, he was the best baddie ever in the latest Star Trek film and I loved him on Top Gear! Love love love Sherlock, and cannot wait for the next series!

SarahStrattonIsBackForJustABit · 21/07/2013 20:26

Countryfile. Can't see how anything could be more British.

FreudiansSlipper · 21/07/2013 20:26

Coronation Street

LaurieFairyCake · 21/07/2013 20:28

Gardeners World with Monty. Can't imagine that being screened anywhere else in the world. Have I won?

Emilythornesbff · 21/07/2013 20:32

Is it on now?
Help!
I can't see it! [sob]

SarahStrattonIsBackForJustABit · 21/07/2013 20:34

Canada copied us.

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 21/07/2013 20:38

Maybe some of the sitcoms and comedy shows?

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2013 20:38

QI

LaurieFairyCake · 21/07/2013 20:38

drama! Otherwise you might as well say the News!

(Though I love Monty)

It's not on at the moment - was on last night.

I still say Countryfile.

freeandhappy · 21/07/2013 20:51

Author of sherlock holmes Arthur Conan Doyle was born and raised in Scotland both of his parents were irish so that's where the wit and humour come from IMHO

squoosh · 21/07/2013 20:53

Nah.

May I point you in the direction of Fred Dibnah's oeuvre. I give you gems such as Fred Dibnah's Magnificent Monuments or Fred Dibnah's Age of Steam.

Sherlock is far too flash and self assured to be a true representation of Britain.

beachesandbuckets · 21/07/2013 20:55

Ok, if you want to play by your 'rules', Laurie...

Last of the Summer Wine. Nowhere else on earth would this DRAMA be considered entertainment.

squoosh · 21/07/2013 20:57

I opened a bottle of wine especially to celebrate the cancelling of The Last of the Summer Wine.

beachesandbuckets · 21/07/2013 20:57

Ps you are forgiven for your vague game rules by our shared love of Monty :)

jamdonut · 21/07/2013 20:59

Doctor Who

LaurieFairyCake · 21/07/2013 21:09

Shock last of the summer wine a feckin drama Shock

To be fair there are no words (apart from swear words) to describe that faeces.

Sherlock is the best tv programme ever, fact, no taksey-backseys.

squoosh · 21/07/2013 22:09

I think it's a good TV show but ridiculously hyped, usually by people who are obsessed with Benedict Cumberbatch. Also Martin Freeman is just awful and puts me off it completely.

ShowOfHands · 21/07/2013 22:14

Oh I love Martin Freeman.
