It has made my blood boil! Especially that judgmental bitch, Debbie, who was telling the single parent that she shouldn't buy a whole chicken on tax payers' money to feed her children! Then she went all judgy and bitchy because the kids eat two cooked meals a day and she asked if that was really necessary!
I think the world has gone mad!

handcream what about abusive men who deliberately tamper with their partners contraception so they can keep them pregnant and have them bear several children so that they cant/dont leave. You are very mysogynistic.

Sleepshmeep · 19/07/2013 21:01

Not to mention victims of rape, Leith/Darkest.

I'm with Trigglesx. No-one but my closest friends and the professionals involved know the details of why I have claimed benefits. I have always had their full support. I have spates of being able to work, when I work very hard and times when unable.

To strangers, neighbours, mothers in the playground, there would appear absolutely no reason why I could not work. Until the vitriol that has been spouted since the Tories got power, I never gave a moment?s thought to whether people knew my circumstances or not, or cared for that matter.

I detest the notable difference now, in feeling like I have to justify my position, to explain or talk about circumstances that are deeply personal and private.

Rightly or wrongly I feel increasingly judged unless I ?go there?. I have even started to worry about whether the postman is a gossip about the stripy mail I sometimes get. (I?m sure he?s not but FFS!)

Sleepshmeep · 19/07/2013 21:08

Sorry, should say "parents" in the playground.

Sleepshmeep · 19/07/2013 21:17

Sad for those women.

Darkesteyes · 19/07/2013 21:21

Sad Angry too Sleep. I follow Jezebel on Twitter and that appeared in my feed several months ago.

Sleepshmeep · 19/07/2013 21:22

Just horrendous.

Trigglesx · 20/07/2013 00:28

YY Triggles and Sleep Totally agree.

Sleepshmeep · 20/07/2013 12:39

I hear you Triggles. And completely identify.

What's most concerning is the effect of this increasingly tainted stigma on those who are already marginalised. So much good work and resources have gone in to raising awareness and decreasing stigma, particulary with respect to mental ill health. I can only imagine how someone with a paranoid illness can be faring in these times.

In one fowl swoop this government has now bludgeoned those, who also happen to claim benefits, with a heap more negative stigma at a very real community level. It is actually reversing progress at a cost. So short sighted. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not even being measured.

I watched the 2nd programme. It was quite depressing as the jobs such as the carers were such long hours - 14 hour shift so I could see Liam's point of view.

also all the jobs were very physical.

I would hate to have to do all that cleaning like the cleaning company- it's bad enough in my own home.

I was surprised the plummer only earned 20K. We are lead to believe that they earn thousands.

DayOldCheesecake · 21/07/2013 11:24

Don't be ridiculous - this has nothing to do with which political party is in power. The simple truth is that easy credit and "funny money" ran out in 2008. Nobody gives a flying fuck about benefits when the money fountain is spewing out 20's (look no further than Ulster for evidence of house prices + equity withdrawal = "quiet" times, tap turned off = a return to sectarian violence). Once people who are working are struggling they look around at the bone idle and wonder wtf is going on.

People hate scroungers and christ knows I've seen enough of them on mumsnet.

People hate scroungers and christ knows I've seen enough of them on mumsnet.

Would you please elaborate?
