Sports day is going ahead?!

In five minutes I have to go back up to school for sports day. I'd not know what the weather is like where you are but here it rained like a bastard last night.

I just slipped over in the garden while doing the chickens.

Yet my dc are expected to do running races! I am Angry and Shock

YABVU! Even if a child does fall over on grass, is that such a terrible thing?

I'd consider it part and parcel of things, and they will be looking forward to a fun day- would you like it cancelled?

I will be fucking raging if they fall and sprain a wrist or ankle though.

It rained like a bastard here. My kids were out on their bikes during it. They came home wet, muddy and happy.

I'm off out for a walk round the woods in a moment.

T'is only water and mud. It won't kill anyone.

Understand your feelings but schools really can't win. Our parents get absolutely livid if we cancel sports day unless it is absolutely pouring.

well, i agree with you but we're obviously in the minority. then again, i hate sports day and so do my dc, so the only thing worse is sports day in the rain.

Hmm. Well if its not raining at the moment I'm sure they'll be fine.

dd's was last week and it was properly pouring down so they moved it into the school hall and great fun was had by all. Have to admit I was grateful as I didn't relish the idea of getting drenched through while watching them. The only thing they didn't do was the sack race because the hall floor is quite slippery

They will have done some sort of risk assessment and decided it is ok....

I'm guessing if it is really slippery they will have an alternative event taking place... the year our field was wet they did old fashioned egg and spoon instead of 50m..... which was such a laugh because no one had trained for it and they got everyone - even the teachers to do it ...

You live in Great Britain? Get used to the rain. We get it at least 9 months of the year. It always amazes me when people in this country get all worried because a splash of rain might touch them. You would think we would be used to it by now!!

Our sports day is canceled because of the rain. It's not even rained since about six this morning but they said that because it rained over night its too wet for them and they might slip and hurt themselves. A lot of parents are not happy because they booked the morning off. You just can't win whatever decision is made can you?

My sister broke her ankle on wet grass when running the 200m in primary sports day. she needed it pinned and plated. My mum often says the sxhool would have been sued if had happened these days!

YABU but you know that. My ds is gone to hurling camp this morning in the muddiest field known to women, with the strict instructions to get stuck in and get muddy. They are children its what they do!

Oh it's been postponed not canceled. But my ds1 didn'teven a sposports day last year because first it was postponed because it was raining and then the reserve day the following week was canceled because it forecast rain but in fact it turned out lovely. I think schools can be too risk adverse sometimes

YABU - rained all night here and I did bootcamp on the Heath this morning (with 20 others) and not one of us slipped during the sprints or jogs......

I agree they can't win.

Our sports day went ahead but wouldn't have if it had rained due to the risk of injury and complaining parents.

No-one told my old PE teacher these things back in the day when she had us out doing cross country in the snow. Character building I think she called it Hmm

DS's sports day at primary was yesterday (he won his sack race with a massive dive at the line Grin).

DD's sports day at secondary was meant to be today, but yesterday it was decided to shift it to tomorrow. Even though it's sunnyish now, there was quite a bit of rain last night so probably the best decision as their school is on low graound near a river and the very end of the field can get quite waterlogged.

YABU - DD had sports day last week in the pouring rain. All the children looked like drowned rats, but none of them melted... Grin
