To think you shouldn't smoke around babies?

Especially ones in a pushchairs looking thoroughly grey and bored with a fucking oxygen line up their nose?

DD2 has been ill and I saw this fine tableau outside the children's unit of our hospital today. 2 sets of parents 2 pushchairs (could only see 1 baby clearly) sat in the burning sun smoking (in a smoke free hospital grounds I might add) next to their child who looked very unwell.

I'm an ex smoker I'm in no doubt with ill babies they are under stress but seriously wtaf are they thinking?

YANBU.

I can understand them wanting to smoke because of the stress but they should have either taken it in turns to go or asked a nurse on the ward to watch the baby while they smoked.

LEMisdisappointed · 28/06/2013 21:10

YANBU some people are just fuckwits

RoseandVioletCreams · 28/06/2013 21:11

Disgusting

Its the most selfish habits, they need t make smokers wear a special hat to contain their own smoke.,

FirstStopCafe · 28/06/2013 21:12

YANBU this frustrates and angers me
Poor babies

WhoBU · 28/06/2013 21:12

YANBU. I went to a baby shower held in a pub garden recently and left early because I didn't want to get smoked on, let alone watch my pregnant friend get smoked on by her friends and family. Theoretically I understand that outside the risks are negligible but I'm never around cigarette smoke so it's alien and unpleasant to me. It's like standing next to a motorway - I just wouldn't choose to do it.

WhoBU · 28/06/2013 21:12

Rose&Violet pls patent Grin

LookingForwardToMarch · 28/06/2013 21:15

Yanbu

It is beyond vile to smoke anywhere near a baby / child

crashdoll · 28/06/2013 21:19

YANBU, they are tossers.

50BalesOfHay · 28/06/2013 21:22

YABU. They are outside. Roseanfviolet should we wear it all the time,? How about perfume wearers? They need containing as scent makes me gag.

BabyStone · 28/06/2013 21:27

YADNBU! Hate it!

SoftlySoftly · 28/06/2013 21:28

50bales seriously? ? Outside maybe but blowing smoke at a baby on oxygen.

Wasn't you was it?

Oldraver · 28/06/2013 21:31

Most smokere either dont realise how their smoke effects other people or dont give a shit. I say 'most' not all.

I had someone on a drip walk past several benches and sit next to me and baby DS and light up, we had takena breather from the ward and his hospital band could be clearly seen.....selfish fucker is all I'll say

LEMisdisappointed · 28/06/2013 21:50

If you can smell something, then molecules of that something are going up your nose and into your airway! peoples pongy perfume may make you gag but they wont give you cancer etc.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/06/2013 21:56

YANBU.

Sitting out on the street today at an event, a man to my right, a group of teens aged around 14 to my right. Me in the middle with DD2 in her pram. Man says he had to move down because the teens were annoying him. Saying it like how dare they. They werent even that bad fs. Just a bit loud.

Anyway we sit there for a while with this man huffing and puffing because these teens now have silly string, when he gets out his fag and a lighter. I was downwind, so caught every bit. As did DD2.

I know which one was the most anti social. Angry

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/06/2013 21:57

Teens on my left :o

This is the THIRD thread on smoking - why don't you anti-smokers just get your own forum? It is getting boring now.

WestieMamma · 28/06/2013 22:27

YANBU

I hated having to run the gauntlet of smokers when I went to hospital. The labour/maternity unit had its own covered entrance round the side of the building. Perfect for smokers to stand under when it was raining, despite there being signs all over the place forbidding it, and despite there being an enclosed, dry smoking area 100 yards further on. Bloody staff members too.

50BalesOfHay · 28/06/2013 22:27

softlysoftly no, not me. I am very careful about where I smoke. I am not, however someone who is sub human and needs to wear a hood. And yes, my allergy to that vile issey mayaki perfume is real

SoftlySoftly · 28/06/2013 22:37

Lasttango hadn't realised you bought mumsnet out, oh hang on......

I was a hardened smoker, I would love one now, in fact wine + me = fag, DH still smokes. Yetl I can still safely say that anyone who justifies smoking around kids especially those requiring OXYGEN is a selfish self centred arsehole.

YANBU.

Like poster upthread, I'd like smokers to wear a big goldfish type bowl on their heads. Not sure about logistics of this, needs more thought..

lozster · 29/06/2013 04:39

Maybe they couldn't see the sign? There were so many smokers and clouds of smoke at Blackpool Victoria cardiac unit that the five foot by five foot no smoking signs were obscured from view. Hmm

MyBaby1day · 30/06/2013 06:04

YADNBU, that it DISGUSTING, a baby needing oxygen, tantamount to abuse! Angry

MyBaby1day · 30/06/2013 06:05

And yes, I am all for them wearing hats! Grin
