To think 15 months is a poxy sentence

For molesting 14 underage girls?!

Because that's all BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall has been sentenced to after admitting to 14 offences in the past, one of them being a 9 year old girl.

AIBU in thinking this is an absolute joke and wonder what the hell the judge was thinking?

It shameful of our justice system :(

specialsubject · 17/06/2013 13:41

he won't serve it all. And I don't see why we should feed and house him for too long - just long enough for the other inmates to dish out some punishment.

he won't do it again, he is too well-known to have the opportunity. The sad thing is that it was not detected in time to stop some of the offences.

mummylin2495 · 17/06/2013 13:41

I agree with you , works out roughly a month for each case of abuse he carried out. A bloody month , what a joke !

Sparklingbrook · 17/06/2013 13:42

I was a bit shocked. When the Newsreader said '15' and then months not years.

Chivetalking · 17/06/2013 13:42

YANBU and to make it worse he will only serve half of it Angry

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 17/06/2013 13:44

Get more for stealing :(

HerrenaHarridan · 17/06/2013 13:47

Ha!

The day the school bus driver who raped me while I was in school uniform was sentenced to 4 years (out in two for good behaviour) it was in the paper that someone got 4.5 for installing nicked freeview boxes

It's beyond a joke Angry

AnneNonimous · 17/06/2013 13:59

14 young girls who have had to carry around awful memories for the rest of their lives and this man will only spend just over a year of his locked up.

I feel incredibly angry

I think the justice system in this country is either corrupt to the core or just totally incompetent.

Andro · 17/06/2013 14:12

and this man will only spend just over a year of his locked up.

Assuming stress doesn't kill him (not impossible for someone with a heart condition - unless that was a lie), he won't spend a year in jail. The early release guidelines will mean he's out in a little over 7 months, unless the guidelines have been changed recently.

Remotecontrolduck · 17/06/2013 14:12

Ridiculous, he should be in prison until he dies. Being elderly isn't an excuse for such a pathetic prison sentence. There is rarely any justice in this country.

Buzzardbird · 17/06/2013 14:15

Herrena, that is dreadful what happened to you. I hope he got severely punished whilst inside.
These pathetic sentences must be given by idiots.

BOF · 17/06/2013 14:15

Herrena, that is beyond awful, I'm so sorry.

Am I alone in thinking that there ought to be minimum sentences for some crimes? Minimums that guilty pleas etc have no bearing on? As an example, I would suggest that any sex crime committed by a person 18 or over, against a child below the age of 13 ought to carry at least a 5 year minimum (of actual time to be served).

HerrenaHarridan · 17/06/2013 14:22

It's just so bloody common, it makes me very sad / angry / scared to look at my little girl and think the chances are 1:3 that at some point in her life she will be raped and 2:8 it will be by some one she trusted.

AmberLeaf · 17/06/2013 14:22

Pathetic sentence.

YANBU it is absolutely disgusting.

He should be getting years, not months.

My worry is such poor sentences will deter other people from coming forward.

It would be laughable if it wasn't so disgusting Angry

SilverBellsandCockleShells · 17/06/2013 14:33

From the BBC:

"Hall's barrister Crispin Aylett, in mitigation, told the court the former broadcaster had "all of 13" victims compared to Jimmy Savile's 1,300."

Words fail me.

specialsubject · 17/06/2013 14:39

1 in 3 chance of rape? Really?

the horse has bolted, Hall's crimes were not detected at the time when something could have been done. Finding out why and preventing a recurrence is more important than spending money feeding and housing the criminal.

Although I do hope that any request for solitary is denied - I don't advocate anarchy in prisons but I hope a blind eye is turned to whatever happens.

the comments of the barrister beggar belief.

cherryade8 · 17/06/2013 14:40

Outrageous. What a pathetic criminal justice system. Shame on this country.

JustGiveMeFiveMinutes · 17/06/2013 14:45

Please don't call the judge's private life into question. They have strict guidelines they have to adhere to.
