AIBU?

To want an alternative to Facebook?!?

I hate fb, personal choice not criticising.

My family are spread far and wide an I want something similar that I can upload pics of dd onto for family to look at whenever they want.

Here is my criteria;

I want to be able to upload easily from my phone, individual pics not the whole bloody lot like on drop box.

I want for it be accessible to invited individuals only.

I do not want to be giving ownership of said photos to the site

Does such a place exist?

dropbox, its what our family uses, make a free account, upload, share the link/info with who you want, and only they can access it. when you upload a pic or take one on your phone, it will automatically ask you if you want it putting in dropbox, click Y/N

photobucket used to be good by now you will wait an eternity for anymore than 2 photos uploading at a time, thats IF its decided its working today, which more often than not it isnt

Path is quite nice, pretty personal, sort of instagram meets Facebook but with no adverts/pic ownership/ people you don't really like

I don't think it's too well known yet so it could take some time to get people on there. I've been on since October and still only have 10 friends which suits me really

Hmm ok, I will look Into these options.

I have Dropbox on my phone as mumps trying to get me to use that but it isn't working how you said it seems to be all or nothing. I will investigate.

I thought Instagram had been bought over by fb?

It has, they own rights to your photos too now

Path is only a available to I phone etc users which my mum is not.

Shame though their terms state that you still own your pics and it looks pretty good

I ditched fb about 6 weeks ago and need an alternative for photo sharing with family too.

I use sky drive to share family photos. You email invite people to view and the photos can be edited or locked. Not sure about ownership.

I use flikr for this purpose, in Aus and family in uk. Although they've just gone to a tile style where I preferred the lists. Used it for about 5 years though and it's been fine.

Picasa say you still own your photos. Is it the same as Google+? It's linked anyway.

Also Dropbox - you can create separate folders for close family, friends, hobby interests and set passwords for each.
Glad to see people leaving the socially destructive Facebook.

Why don't you just use Facebook with restricted privacy settings and very select friends?

Unless you are David Bailey or Victoria Beckham I don't think the owners would be the slightest bit interested in useing your photos.

Facebook isn't really an alternative to Facebook is it?

Report

honeytea · 04/06/2013 17:19

No, but you can use facebook in a way that works for you. You don't have to be friends with 200 people and have your photos visible to everyone.

Wouldn't it just be easier to use facebook as so many people already have it?
