To think DH should know what barbecue to get

Trying2bMindful · 29/05/2013 00:27

We have a barbecue party this weekend and I thought DH was sorting out a barbecue... Well he hasn't and doesn't seem to know which gas barbecue we should get.

Surely this is a "blue job" and he should have a view on it?!
Grrrr.
So, over to you mumsnetters - which gas barbecue should I buy tomorrow on my day off?!

OP posts:

If by 'blue job' you mean 'man's job' YABU.

badblueeyeliner · 29/05/2013 01:25

What's a 'blue job'?

LuisGarcia · 29/05/2013 01:30

Google thinks Blue Job is something to do with polishing chrome. No, I don't know what OP means either.

LongNeckedDancers · 29/05/2013 01:33

Can I come? I love a good bbq

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/05/2013 01:34

Wha?

TinBox · 29/05/2013 01:36

What the hell? Blue job? Is this something he is supposed to have learned in his man classes of manliness? Sorry, but I don't remember having to learn about barbecues, and I don't see why anyone would know about them until they wanted to buy one.

crumpet · 29/05/2013 01:41

Now I do think it's wise to get involved, but not for the reasons the other posters are suggesting- what form the BBQ takes is of zero interest to me, but I did have to step in when exDH got a bit Mr Toad like about one of these WTF at something like £4k.....

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 29/05/2013 01:41

Why should he know what one to get any more than you do?

Are men born with an a-z knowledge of barbecues stored in their testicles?

Work out what size you need then look online for the a good deal, its not difficult.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/05/2013 02:23

Are BBQs now operated with the cock? That doesn't sound safe. Burn risk? Singed pubes?

CrystalDeCanter · 29/05/2013 02:35

OP as an Australian (and you know we're always chucking a shrimp on the barbie) I have to recommend the WEBER Q BBQ. It is totes ace, can do the sausages/chops/drumsticks etc but also a roast. It's a piece of piss to use, and you can take it camping etc.

LuisGarcia · 29/05/2013 02:37

What do you want to cook and how?

fairylightsinthespring · 29/05/2013 06:58

OP YABU and I'm sure you know it. Crystal YABU for using "totes". It's awful.

fairylightsinthespring · 29/05/2013 06:59

Sorry, had no sleep and am Sad but stand by my opinion on "totes" Wink

Shutupanddrive · 29/05/2013 07:02

What's a blue job? Confused

Yes it does matter, as I don't understand what she means. That's why I'm asking!

GiveMummyTheWhizzer · 29/05/2013 07:09

YABU - just because he's a man he doesn't automatically know what BBQ to buy...

YA also BU to buy a gas BBQ - its not a BBQ its an outside oven! Charcoal all the way.

HollyBerryBush · 29/05/2013 07:12

Umm, don't you just have a budget, then go down to the DIY shop and get one within budget? I assume you mean a gas fired one? lets face it, the average British summer does not necessitate an all singing, all dancing 2-grand jobbie - more your £100 and hope the sun shines sort of thing.

Montybojangles · 29/05/2013 07:14

We have a weber Q (picked by moi, a girlie Grin ), it's great, but if you're having a big party it's probably too small.

MusicalEndorphins · 29/05/2013 07:15

Propane or natural gas? How much space do you need on the grill? How many people are coming?
Ours has burners on the side that are good for boiling water and making rice. It has 2 levels or racks in it.

£100? B&Q sell them for £40. Seeing as we only get one day a year to BBQ I don't see the point of spending lots..

Lazyjaney · 29/05/2013 07:37

Definitely a Weber, the lid means you can BBQ in therein, essential in tbe UK!

Also, charcoal BBQ tastes a lot better than gas.

Lazyjaney · 29/05/2013 07:38

Therein = the rain. thanks Apple.

LeaveIt · 29/05/2013 07:46

Defo a blue job! BBQ = man and fire, man like fire, fire good, man burn food, man provide (all said in a cave man tone!)

CasperGutman · 29/05/2013 07:50

Weber all the way. Personally I prefer charcoal over gas mind you - for reasons of flabvour and environmental sustainability, and because of my primal need to make a proper fire every so often....
