To throw an apple core onto the grass verge?

I ate an apple while taking DD to playgroup this morning. I threw the core onto this big grass verge that is unkempt anyway. I've always thought it was ok to do this with apple cores as they rot. I never throw any litter away always put it in the bin or take it home. I always pick my dogs poo up, and wouldn't throw an apple core on someone's lawn.

But there was someone behind me who called me a litter lout mumbled under their breath in passing so was I being unreasonable or not?

I gave one to the ants today. We walk the dog in this big scrubland and there are loads of massive anthills so I left it near the foot of one of them today. There are no houses or people around there.

I like dropping apple core down rabbit/badger holes, i often eat the core, but if I don't it would never go in a bin, and banana skins always go on the bottom of the roses, so if I'm out and about they go on what ever plan looks like it needs a feed.
