To throw an apple core onto the grass verge?

I ate an apple while taking DD to playgroup this morning. I threw the core onto this big grass verge that is unkempt anyway. I've always thought it was ok to do this with apple cores as they rot. I never throw any litter away always put it in the bin or take it home. I always pick my dogs poo up, and wouldn't throw an apple core on someone's lawn.

But there was someone behind me who called me a litter lout mumbled under their breath in passing so was I being unreasonable or not?

I am going to have that WOOOAH song in my head for the rest of the day Grin

YABU littering is littering, no matter what it is you are chucking.

Startail · 22/05/2013 16:07

Neither here, nor at collage did an apple core last long enough to attract rats.

On a city verge, I suppose it might. Pretty minor crime compared with fortnightly bin collections in the rat attracting stakes.

If we forget the knockers, we wouldn't be taking pride in our puberty, surely? Or are we just taking pride in our lady gardens?

Viviennemary · 22/05/2013 16:08

No I think you were wrong to do this. They might attract vermin.

sassytheFIRST · 22/05/2013 16:08

Wondering what a rubbish nerd looks like.

Slightly too short trousers but trendy hoody and big thick-rimmed specs which are coming back into style rather than nhs frames from 1980... Clean hair with fake druff.

thegreylady · 22/05/2013 16:10

I'd chuck an apple core but not banana skin or orange peel.If dropping an apple core in the country is littering then there are a lot of criminal trees about :)

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2013 16:10

Sadly, the rubbish nerd in question is a tall, slim, beautiful woman bitch although I like your version more.

Kasterborous · 22/05/2013 16:10

Ok so 50/50 ish. While walking to playgroup we passed goodness knows how many burger cartons, plastic bottles, a mattress and a pillow. Yes I know it's no excuse to be adding to it and will think twice next time.

I have a feeling autocorrect has taken the wind out of my righteous indignation at the scourge of litter louts [sidles off]

sassytheFIRST · 22/05/2013 16:12

She def sounds like a rubbish nerd.

Poledra · 22/05/2013 16:15

And, to add to the autocorrect fails, we have startail throwing out the apple cores for the 'acquittals' - studying law, were you? Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2013 16:16

She did weave her own nappies out of spider webs and snowflakes.

Seriously, she actually made her own and tie-dyed them.

Kasterborous · 22/05/2013 16:16

Just read your post properly bluegrass I will take more pride in my puberty in the future Smile. But in all seriousness I take your point.

Bluegrass you've just cheered me up :)

OP YABU

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/05/2013 16:17

lol at acquittals Grin

soontobeslendergirl · 22/05/2013 16:19

it takes 2 months for an apple core to decompose - it's littering plain and simple.

Kasterborous · 22/05/2013 16:19

Can you request for the rubbish nerd to visit round here? There is a nice not at all manky mattress an pillow for he/she/other to sleep on oh and an apple core to eat.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2013 16:24

I'll ask but I think she might faint at the UK rubbish. She's Italian in Canada and I'm not sure she could cope with British rubbish. I told her about Croydon and the KFC bones on the floor. I don't think she believed me.

higgle · 22/05/2013 16:41

Everyone IBU not to eat them - no need to throw apple cores away.

Kasterborous · 22/05/2013 16:44

Haven't the pips got something nasty in them? I'm sure I read it somewhere. Although even if they have you would need a lot of pips to do any harm.

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2013 16:44

I wouldn't. They are poison. Pips contain cyanide.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/05/2013 16:45

Shit. Am I a rubbish nerd now?

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/05/2013 16:48

What about apple trees on grass verges?
Don't the apples fall on to the ground.
