Or can I be pissed off- baby name

Have name changes for this as know I'm going to get told off but I can't help but be annoyed!
Basically I work in a very small office me and another girl at work who I'm quite friendly with were expecting quite close to each other ish. We spoke about names both not giving away any ideas to much.
Anyway My lovely dd is 2 months old and we picked out a name not in top 50 which is a female version of a male name think along the lines of Philippa. Colleague had a little boy this week called the male version of the name eg Philip but in the top 50.
I can't help but feel a bit weird I know that I don't own the name but two babies in such a small team with very similar names I feel a bit weird

Yes YABU, Smile I colleague of mine called his baby the same name as mine (they're 6 months apart), didn't even cross my mind to think twice about it, mind you it's a popular name.

I think this can be a drawback when you chose a less popular name, there is more of a sense of ownership.

She was probably aghast when you pickled your dds name. She probably come on here and was told to go for it anyway.

How many other people are in your office? do you suspect there may be some eye rolling and quiet tutting going on as the pair of you are pfbing over your respective offspring when you're both back working?

It sounds like the pair of you were quite competitive regarding names.

Yabu. I kind of understand but don't ever mention this outside of mn or you will get some very hmmphy faces. Your friends will tell you yanbu but they will think you have lost the plot!

Thanks all knew I was but needed telling! Very small team of 10 sugarice don't think we were competitive about names we only discussed it when other people in office brought it up and only couple of times really

It might seem like she's close to you now because you work together and spend so much time in each other's company, but look at it this way, are you both likely to go back to work full time after having your DCs? There's a good chance at least one of you will go back parttime or not at all. Will your DCs spend any time together? I have had a job share for 2 years but I have seen her DD twice in that time, both at the Christmas children's party my company holds.

If she was someone you lived close too so your DC might be in the same nursery or school class, then odd to pick it when the two DCs are so close in age, but this is not a child that will be around your child at all. If she's picked what is a common name (being in the top 50 for boys) then there's a chance that another little boy your DD will get to know when she's a little older at whichever childcare you go for, or toddler groups you take her too, or school.

Thanks don'tmind she lives across town so we may see each other I'd we arrange a meet up but don't think we'd be going to same baby groups or anything

Yes. YABU. You are only work colleagues and will no doubt go your separate ways at some stage. If everyone avoided using a name that someone they knew had used (and this isn't even the same name), well most babies wouldn't be named.

As an aside , this is why I did not discuss baby names with colleagues as (a) I couldn't give a shit about their opinions and (b) I didn't want someone saying either to my face or behind my back that they had bagged that name and any derivative thereof

Your DD is only 2 months old, you haven't got into the whole baby groups and toddler groups and classes thing yet probably! You'll find that increasingly work colleagues become less important when you have DCs.

You also might end up with very different nicknames for your DCs, so it's not as obvious to others that the long versions are the male and female equivilant of the same name.
