AIBU?

Or can I be pissed off- baby name

Have name changes for this as know I'm going to get told off but I can't help but be annoyed!
Basically I work in a very small office me and another girl at work who I'm quite friendly with were expecting quite close to each other ish. We spoke about names both not giving away any ideas to much.
Anyway My lovely dd is 2 months old and we picked out a name not in top 50 which is a female version of a male name think along the lines of Philippa. Colleague had a little boy this week called the male version of the name eg Philip but in the top 50.
I can't help but feel a bit weird I know that I don't own the name but two babies in such a small team with very similar names I feel a bit weird
Iabu aren't I?!

Yabu, it really won't be an issue once the babies are here. DS is a year older than his cousin and they spend a lot of time with each other. They both have very similar names, with only one letter different. Apart from them both turning their heads when one of their names is called there hasn't been any issues.

They are quite different sounding names. She may not have even realised, or it could have a family significance?

Six months after my DS2 (Alexander) was born, one of my work colleagues named her daughter Alexa, and I didn't even bat an eyelid.

She had every right to use the name she loved, just as I had done.

My sil did same so 2 cousins with similar names. You won't be working with her in a few years whereas my DS will always have similar name to his cousin..

DS is Joseph, so I'm annoyed at you and your colleague now.

I can understand how you feel actually. DS is named after my Granddad, and my cousins wife was expecting their baby two months after DS was due. Neither of us had discussed names but it turned out we had both decided on Joseph for a boy, after Granddad. Although I was always his favourite grandchild, and I was named after him (I'm not a Josephine though) so really the name Joseph was more mine to claim than anybody else's.

When we told my cousin and his DP DS's name they were both and then said "That's our boys name...we'll use it anyway because we're going to use the nickname JJ!"

I was secretly very relieved that they had a girl and so couldn't have Joseph and didn't go for Josephine instead.

We don't shorten DS's name but the chances are either you or your colleague will shorten or use a nickname for one of your children, and you won't be both talking about them at work all the time when you go back, so it won't matter as much then as it does now.

In the same team ??????. The babies don't work there.
The baby might be the centre of your world at the moment; but she's totally distinct from your work environment. You need to remember this.

Lovely lovely names I dont think they're that similar either. Joseph was one of our boys names (I have 3dds), but it's a family name so I had dibs on it first

I doubt it even crossed her mind. I named my DC the same name as several if my colleagues (not their children) without noticing until afterwards.

YABU. I don't know why some people get so funny about friends/rel's choosing the same or similar. Just give your baby the name you want and who cares what anyone else does

In my DD's class, there is Joseph, Joe, Joey, Josie and Josephine! I think they are just pretty popular at the moment; I doubt anyone else has batted an eyelid. X

In our school those two babies would be Michael and Michaela. they end up with the name Michael T and Michaela J or whatever their surname happens to be.
Dd had three girls named Kyra (now down to two after one moved house) and two boys named Brandon in her class.
