To have a weird thing about dressing my newborn in white?

It's weird. I was the same with DS. The thought of putting her in colours just upsets me. Is this some kind of strange evolutionary affliction? It appears not as my friend's babies are dressed in a veritable array of things - one even in a Batman outfit. Is it just me?

I think it is nice to dress newborns in white, but I don't feel that strongly about it.

It used to be considered bad luck to dress them in colours

Yes it's weird, but it's not going to hurt anyone so get on with the white thing! Your washing machine will be extra-busy mind...

I just can't bring myself to put her in colours. Even a pale pink...

I think with DS it was a couple of months. Pale blues slipped through the net. Then as he aged slowly other colours seeped into his wardrobe palette...Now he's a toddler anything goes. I wonder if it's to do with innocence and being slowly tarnished by the big bad world? Or something?

I have this same weirdness to a point. I just think there is nothing quite like a newborn in a white babygrow but it only really extends as far as my own DCs and thinking 'Aaah, that little one looks nice in that snowy white babygrow'.

Thank god MIL is as weird because she had to rush out and buy tiny baby sized when DD turned out to be roughly the size of a doll. The woman had the good sense to choose white.

It feels like a strange instinct thing. It intrigues me. Oh I've just Googled it oranges and can't find anything - that's really interesting though.

Good to know it's not just me. I've also got a thing about baby grows and newborns. We've been bought some gorgeous dresses but it would just feel entirely weird and wrong to put them on her.

Love white on babies. I dressed DD in all white mostly and also had her entire nursery in white. After receiving a few gifts in bright colours i thought i would give them a go and was surprised to see how she suited colour (let's face it- she is gorgeous and suits everything) Grin
But i still prefer white. That being said, after the introduction of solids, several outfit changes a day and spending my life soaking everything was not a viable option!

I had only white for all babygrows up to 3-6 months as I think they look particularly lovely in crisp white clothes. and it meant all three of them could wear the ones I bought for DD
Unfortunately, ds2 decided to grow out of them all quick smart and is in 6-9 month clothes (and has been since he was just over 2 months old) so he is already into the coloured stuff :(

I still put DD in white babygrows (she's 7 months). I really like it. I thought it was childhood memories of dressing my baby doll in white babygrows. Grin

I feel the same about not allowing my DC to wear black ....ever. Well...my oldest is now 8 and this year, MIL got her a black t shirt and a black shrug thing so I let her wear them but my younger DD is 5 and has no black attire.

We wear black all our lives once we're adults. Too dull for children and it looks "wrong". I understand OP.

I was the same with mine. I thought I'd want him in bright colours but soon reverted to white once he was born. Now he's a few months old I still like him in white babygrows and all the lovely outfits we were bought as presents are still languishing in a drawer.

Ooh with you on the black clothes thing Neo. Never really thought about it but DS has no black clothes and the one time he was bought a pair of black jeans I popped them on eBay such a grateful person I can be

I loved white too, but I had a lovely black velour suit that both of mine came home from hospital in. Like the most gorgeous cuddly little black kittens......

Why not, I like babies in white too! May as well while you can as after weaning commences white is not good.
