AIBU?

To have a weird thing about dressing my newborn in white?

It's weird. I was the same with DS. The thought of putting her in colours just upsets me. Is this some kind of strange evolutionary affliction? It appears not as my friend's babies are dressed in a veritable array of things - one even in a Batman outfit. Is it just me?

I was exactly the same. I was given a coloured babygrow and it looked so odd on him, he didn't look like 'my' baby. Even now, at 23 months, I love seeing him in a white babygrow as he looks so young and innocent.

This happened to me and also surprised me, I had not bought/been given everything in white so there was lots of washing of his 6 white baby grows, when he was a few weeks black and white stripes became acceptable.
Also cloth nappies, which when pg I had loved all the colours suddenly seemed horrid (not good with a white baby grow).

I've muttered about this idea before and how it's a bit precious to not use the clothes you are given as gifts. Then DS was born and I got out all the old clothes and discover we own 101 white babygros for 0-6 months. So I couldn't even remember I do this!

I was the same. Mine wore only white for a good while. Something gorgeous to me about a newborn in white.

My 21.5mo looks adorable in a white sleepsuit, but she takes the buggers off in her sleep so we've made the jump to pyjamas and pretty much every morning we go into her room and say "Morning DD!" and she'll be holding her pyjama bottoms out to us. :o determined to take some form of clothing off but she can't figure out how to get the top off yet

I hate plain white it's boring and showed every milk stain.

My favourite one was white with proper cute light brown bears in postal blue baby grows on it. Don't think I had a single plain white one.

All my 3 wore little white towelling babygroes for ages. There's nothing like a new baby in a white groe. All DS1 wants to wear these days is bloody football kit Hmm. Having said that, I do like babies / small children in black. Obv not head-to-toe goth but DS3 (16 weeks) has a couple of black / black and grey stripey vests that look lovely with his latte coloured skin Smile

DD is in hand knitted matinee jackets Gerrof!! And booties over her white babygrows. I'm sure my friends think it a bit odd that I'm carting her about looking all set for baptism but I love her in them. Just gorgeous. Ahh you should dig out some pictures of your DD in her matinee jackets Grin

I love babies in white, but I especially love watching people squirm try to guess the babies gender without offending, haha I'm easily pleased

I had a thing about white as well, dd was dressed only in white for several weeks. It was absolutely lovely. However my aunt bought her a beautiful navy blue velvet sleepsuit which I loved, dd was so snuggly in it, and she was a baby in the depths of winter so very appropriate.

I think children are going to be dressed in white for such a short period of time it makes it rather special to have an all white rule for a bit. It is rather old fashioned but very sweet.

I had a load of beautiful hand knitted and crocheted matinee jackets for my dd, I bought them from lovely women from WI stalls in a craft market

Why not, I like babies in white too! May as well while you can as after weaning commences white is not good.

I loved white too, but I had a lovely black velour suit that both of mine came home from hospital in. Like the most gorgeous cuddly little black kittens......

Ooh with you on the black clothes thing Neo. Never really thought about it but DS has no black clothes and the one time he was bought a pair of black jeans I popped them on eBay such a grateful person I can be

I was the same with mine. I thought I'd want him in bright colours but soon reverted to white once he was born. Now he's a few months old I still like him in white babygrows and all the lovely outfits we were bought as presents are still languishing in a drawer.

Chasing - she's in DS's white baby grows Smile. It's a lovely link. I wonder if we'll be lucky enough to eventually get a DC3 to wear them too

I feel the same about not allowing my DC to wear black ....ever. Well...my oldest is now 8 and this year, MIL got her a black t shirt and a black shrug thing so I let her wear them but my younger DD is 5 and has no black attire.

We wear black all our lives once we're adults. Too dull for children and it looks "wrong". I understand OP.

I still put DD in white babygrows (she's 7 months). I really like it. I thought it was childhood memories of dressing my baby doll in white babygrows. Grin

YANBU

I had only white for all babygrows up to 3-6 months as I think they look particularly lovely in crisp white clothes. and it meant all three of them could wear the ones I bought for DD
Unfortunately, ds2 decided to grow out of them all quick smart and is in 6-9 month clothes (and has been since he was just over 2 months old) so he is already into the coloured stuff :(
