To think its not that fucking difficult to spell Isaac?

Son of Abraham - so therefore in the Bible?!

Documentary about Isaac Newton spelt Issac in the TV guide?

My Isaac coming home from pre-school years ago with his name on the back of paintings spelt Isacc, Issac, Isaak, Isik, Isac.

Even his bloody teachers can't spell it?!

I mean REALLY?!

That's all - I needed to rant - and breathe :)

Yeah but people like to eff about with spellings when they have kids so not all names are spelled the same way, sadly.

Oh and we don't all read the Bible...well not since finding Mumsnet anyway Grin

No it's not difficult but for some reason I always get a mental block with it. One of my dcs has a friend called Isaac and I always have to double check texts to his mum as I'm paranoid about getting it wrong.

I think it's because your brain isn't used to words with a double aa whereas a double ss is common.

I went to a church (primary) school - we read it every morning until 10.30am Hmm.

I have a very good knowledge of that book Grin.

It's not difficult to spell Jane.

I taught a child who was called Jane spelt Jehane!

I have a Naomi, not difficult either but some of the spellings over the years have amazed me!

I was writing it a new baby card today and had a mental blank. We attend church every week. I know how to spell it, just couldn't today Grin

Yes - I work with a large database containing lots of families, children etc - some of the spellings of lovely names make me Shock and Hmm.

My husband is the best speller I know, honestly he is a go to checker Grin He can't spell Isaac at all. Our friends called their baby Isaac, I hadn't a bloody clue what the name was when he texted to tell me. He now has a real block about it.

My friend has had multiple spellings of Isaac for her ds. The worst offender is her SIL. The child's own aunt can't be bothered to spell his name correctly! It's not hard. Drives my friend barmy.

I admit I struggle with Irish names like Siobhan for instance.

They are beautiful names but do not sound like they are written as an English speaker.

My ds is Izaak so rarely spelt correctly. I didn't make this spelling up btw.

You see, I've never known an Isaac or Naomi, and I've never read the bible. I wouldn't know how to spell either if they weren't already in this thread. I'd have gone for Issac and Niomi.

Yes names get confusing I know someone who's daughter is called Niamh but its pronounced Neave.

One famous holder of the name was Izaak Walton, so I think s/z and c/k variations are understandable if you've only heard, rather than seen, an individual's name.

But doubling the s/z would strike me as a typo.

His "Nana" (ex MIL) spells it Issac too Hmm.

Thankfully I can no longer be trusted to be the receiver of Christmas and birthday cards so they go to his dads girlfriends address now Grin.

Now Niamh and Isaac I can do, but DGoddaughter is called Matilda and I have to think every time about whether it has an 'h' in or not.
