....or is DH? 5 yo DS with painted toe nails?

So there it is. 9 year old DD has painted her finger nails for the holidays. 5 year old DS asked to paint his too. I compromised on his toes as they're not as visible as I knew DH disapproves.

He's just seen DS' toes and has been quite cross about it. I argued he's only 5 and enjoying himself. He thinks as he's only 5 he's impressionable and therefore it's unhealthy for his developmentConfused

So who's unreasonable? Me or him?? Interested in your DH's opinions too! I think it's harmless but obviously if it's not I'll dissuade him in future!

He is unreasonable imo

ENormaSnob · 06/04/2013 20:32

Yanbu

My 3 year old ds loves having his toes painted.

I really can't see the harm tbh.

Tee2072 · 06/04/2013 20:32

It's going to make him gay, you know that right?

::tongue in cheek::

FFS it's just a bit of fun.

tvmum1976 · 06/04/2013 20:32

YANBU he is definitely BU. That's ridiculous.

drjohnsonscat · 06/04/2013 20:32

Almost without reading the post, DP is being unreasonable. I guessed where this was going from the title.

DS will not catch gay from nail polish.

Do your son a favour and let him have fun like his sister does.

SixFeetUnder · 06/04/2013 20:33

He is being unreasonable but I know my H would act the same if it were my boys so I wouldn't do it as it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Silly really because it's such a non-issue but there you go.

Sirzy · 06/04/2013 20:33

Would he have as much problem with a 5 year old daughter having her toe nails painted?

MyHusbandRoy · 06/04/2013 20:33

YABU. Painting a boy's toenails is obviously going to turn him gay and adversely affect his 'development'.

He'll be dressing up as a fairy next...

BruthasTortoise · 06/04/2013 20:34

He is being unreasonable but my 5 year old DS would turn his nose up at the very thought of having "girl's paint" on him. My two year old is a whole different story Smile

superbagpuss · 06/04/2013 20:35

my DT (3.8) boys love watching me paint my nails and I was going to paint their toenails if asked. doesn't hurt them at all

morethanyoubargainfor · 06/04/2013 20:35

your dh is bu! my dh agrees with me!

drjohnsonscat · 06/04/2013 20:35

Could I suggest it would really be worth the hassle sixfeet because those attitudes are limiting and damaging to boys.

Boys and girls should be free to have fun and be silly and not be taught, at the tender age of 5, that some things are ok for girls to do but if boys do them it's somehow bad and wrong.

skaen · 06/04/2013 20:35

YANBU. HIBU.

VirtuousVamp · 06/04/2013 20:35

Myhusbandroy - he's very pretty when he's dressed up in the fairy outfitWinkGrin

Thanks allSmile

Seriously, why would he have a problem with a child having their nails painted?

What is meant to happen?

SunnyRandall · 06/04/2013 20:36

DHIBVVVU.

Minx179 · 06/04/2013 20:37

Good job he's not married to me. DS1 when 4/5 used to put my make up on himself when I was getting ready to go out, DH was left to scrub it off. Now a strapping hetro 21 yr old.

Crunchymunchyhoneycakes · 06/04/2013 20:38

He's being unreasonable. My 5yo ds likes his nails done on occasion. He had his fingernails red for a week following Red Nose Day at school.

RunningAgain · 06/04/2013 20:39

I wouldn't let my ds put nail varnish on, but then if I had a dd I wouldn't let her either. I don't think it's a big deal though really, so yanbu.

BenjaminButton172 · 06/04/2013 20:39

OMG OP HOW COULD YOU!!!!!!!
I mean your ds could end up being like......

Johnny Depp Wink

usualsuspect · 06/04/2013 20:41

What is he worried about? My DS went through a phrase of painting his fingernails when he was in his emo years.

MrsBombastic · 06/04/2013 20:41

My hubby and I agree... your hubby is overreacting.

Like PP said, you can't catch gay from nail polish (classic)

McNewPants2013 · 06/04/2013 20:42

Is your DH like this with toys.

If your DS wanted a kitchen would he allow it.

Yama · 06/04/2013 20:42

My 2 year old ds cut about all day with a pretty flower clip in his hair all day today. He was very cute and loved it because he loves flowers.

Some children like cute and pretty. Some don't. I don't think gender has much to do with it.

Your dh is intolerable.
