To wonder.............what makes a 'National Treasure'

On the back of the Ann Widdicombe thread it has been said that AW is 'no National Treasure'.
Interesting - because since the population is never going to agree on anything completely I wonder what does make for the aforementioned National Treasure.
I happen to think AW is as close as you can get to one, but I fully understand that her politics make this idea impossible for most some MN'ers. Given that she doesn't hide her views on anything - and why should she - I think that what you see is what you get with her. Might it be said that once over Jimmy Savile was a National Treasure?

I don't know how JS got to be a national treasure. He was always creepy even if we didn't have anything of substance other than an internal shudder to go on.
I think non shudder incuding has to be even higher up the list of attributes than non political myself.
I have a soft spot for AW even though I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than ever vote Tory. She comes accross as honest and sincere. I might not agree with her but the old "how do you know a politico is lying? His lips are moving." doesn't come to mind with her. Which is incredibly rare.
Might be worth swallowing the "poltical views" bitter pill in order to underline how that non slipperyness in a politio is highly regarded and as common as unicorn eggs?

Cheryl was referred to as the nations sweetheart by some dumb ass and it stuck iirc.
National Treasures; Ant and Dec! working class lads who've worked extremely hard, talented, good natured and don't fall out of a club pissed up to their eyeballs
AW is no national treasure in my eyes.

Celia Imrie & Michael Rosen are mine. Talented, speak their mind and don't take themselves too seriously.
I always used to when Cheryl Cole was 'The Nation's Sweetheart', and wonder how our sweetheart was someone who wouldn't be able to get a crb to work with children.
