Easter and Facebook

AIBU to feel irritated by the competitive Facebooking re Easter. My newsfeed is filled with photos of Friend's DC's surrounded by scores of choc eggs, sweets, toys, bikes with captions like 'look who got spoiled by the Easter bunny' etc etc.

When I was younger I used to get a couple of choc eggs and that was my lot

Oops I'm a regular too Tee but I've not seen any; would have enjoyed joining in whinging :)

Oh god I know what you mean. Someone I "know" who I am not really close friends with posted a whole couch full of eggs, clothes and toys. Apparently she spent £185.00 in total as she said on Facebook. I felt a bit shitty giving my DS his 5 Easter eggs lol.

hotcrosbum · 01/04/2013 13:32

Where did all this madness come from?

Easter presents fgs? Ds gets a couple of eggs, at some point around easter, not necessarily on the sunday. That's it. THat was all I got too and my mother was a staunch catholic.

Ds father called to wish him a happy easter and was aghast that I hadn't got ds a present. We were together 8 years and just did the 'some point around easter we'll eat eggs till we are sick thing', now he's doing the full on easter thing too.

I don't get it!

Easter cards are madness too. I am getting far too would up over it this year.

pumpkinsweetie · 01/04/2013 13:35

I do have a few fb braggers, but i the pictures of kids with choc eggs are rather sweet. What i cant stand are people that take photos of their new iPad, computer, phone etc. That is showing off

Ilovesunflowers · 01/04/2013 13:37

I was thinking the same this year OP. It seems to be becoming a bigger thing. When I was young I used to get £5 as my parents didn't believe in chocolate!

SoWhatIfImWorkingClass · 01/04/2013 13:38

How about a tender off the toothfairy?

We got called tight off DP's family because the toothfairy only gave DSD 50p!

SoWhatIfImWorkingClass · 01/04/2013 13:38

*tenner

hotcrosbum · 01/04/2013 13:39

DS got a fiver for a tooth once as the fairy who visited us didn't have any change, silly cow.

LilaFowler · 01/04/2013 13:40

I bought mine an Easter egg each. So that's about a fiver in total spent. Really don't get people who spend loads and do the whole competitive present thing.
So they've got about 4 eggs (each) in total what with grandparents and aunts and uncles buying them some too.
That's more than enough!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/04/2013 13:44

AIBU to think that if FB pisses you off the point where you go on the Internet to moan about the Internet then don't bloody use Facebook.

This goes for everyone that comes on here whinging about Facebook. Either delete your account or accept it for what it is and shut the fuck up about it.

ChocsandChipsandSealingWax · 01/04/2013 13:46

Oh dear I put I pics up of my DC with eggs / Easter nests (caption: mum that looks like poo. Can I eat it?")

Mainly because I thought my DM and MIL would like to see them, because we didn't visit either of them this year (too shattered from stressful time at work, needed quiet time).

It never occurred to me that people would think I was trying to brag Sad if anything, just that for some people pics about DC are boring, like holiday pics (for this reason have set up FB so that only my family and closer friends see pics of DC etc).

patienceisvirtuous · 01/04/2013 13:47

Erm, slight overreaction GML?

patienceisvirtuous · 01/04/2013 13:51

Chocs I was mainly referring to the photos of huge piles of chocolate and gifts... the ones that appear to be braggy. Some of the Easter pics are cute :)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/04/2013 13:53

Not really. I'm so sick of FB moaning. You all seem to have FB friends that irritate the shite out of you, have the audacity to announce pregnancies before you think they should, put pics up of their holidays and photos of their kids having fun in whatever way floats their boat. They have FB conversations in the same room as relatives and write attention seeking posts where they don't tell you what's actually wrong. Apparently. So, FB whingers of MN, why bother?

Lottashakingoinon · 01/04/2013 13:55

my parents didn't believe in chocolate!

Tell them from me flowers that it definitely exists life wouldn't be worth living otherwise

VodkaRevelation · 01/04/2013 13:57

I love that people are so annoyed by people being annoyed about FB bragging that they have a rant. Follow own advice and just ignore?!

It is odd. The true meaning off Easter has been well and truly burrows under piles of chocolate and toys!

VodkaRevelation · 01/04/2013 13:58

Of and burried obviously!

usualsuspect · 01/04/2013 13:58

If it annoys you so much, get off FB.

Because I will post what the bloody hell I like on my FB and if people don't like it they can delete me.

VodkaRevelation · 01/04/2013 13:59

Buried! iPhones... Grrr!
