Birthday/Valentines/Congratulations/Mothers Day etc cards.

Just visited a friend, her birthday was 2 weeks ago and she still had the cards up. I generally take mine down after a week.

I suppose Christmas cards can be the exception.

Yabu. Cards are a celebration. I say keep the party going as long as poss!

ceeveebee · 21/03/2013 14:10

We still have our valentine's cards up, but in our bedroom.
I always had birthday cards for 1 week as my DSIS birthday is exactly one week after mine so she insisted on taking mine down!

SandWitch · 21/03/2013 14:11

Please don't come to my house - I still have a Valentines card up, anniversary cards from the beginning of this month alongside my Mother's Day cards Blush

SkinnybitchWannabe · 21/03/2013 14:11

Ive still got my Mothers Day cards up.

WeAreEternal · 21/03/2013 14:11

YABU in other people's houses its up to they how long they keep their cards up.

Poppet48 · 21/03/2013 14:11

YABU, I like to display my cards for a week but it really wouldn't bother me if I visited someone who still had cards up from an occasion that happened 2 weeks ago, It's there choice.

habbibu · 21/03/2013 14:12

2 weeks! And you're still speaking to her? Good gracious. She might have any number of similarly shaming habits.

catgirl1976 · 21/03/2013 14:13

I normally do a week.

But my mothers day card from DS may stat up forever a while longer :)

Writehand · 21/03/2013 14:14

YABU. There's no "rule" about cards. It's entirely up to the individual. If people want to keep cards up then why shouldn't they? I can't understand why it bothers you.

ShannonNoah · 21/03/2013 14:17

I can't understand why it bothers you

It doesn't bother me Confused

I was just wondering if people did the same.

TroublesomeEx · 21/03/2013 14:21

I always take them down exactly one week after they go up.

Always.

I thought everyone did!

ShannonNoah · 21/03/2013 14:25

Same FolkGirl that's why I was asking.

I am probably very entitled by asking though Grin

I used to save my cards and put them up every year.

Not all the cards I got, but I would save them and go through them and remember people who had been in my life at one time or another but for whatever reason weren't in it any more - eg old college friends I'd lost touch with.

And a 3 year old card from them would go next to a 5 year old card from a school friend next to a card I got that year from a friend next to an 8 year old card from a late aunt, etc.

I lost all that sentimentality many, many years ago, Grin now I tell people not to bother with cards and if they do, they tend to get binned after they've been read Blush and I don't remember people who were once in my life. Now I walk away without a backward glance.

I do sometimes wonder if I've lost something that was special about me. Or whether my young self was a total cringeworthy arse. Grin

Thurlow · 21/03/2013 14:27

DP would take them down the next day if he could!

I'm too slatternly to remember that is has been a week. Also, if it's a card your DC has made you, that's too cute to just take down quickly.

Aranea · 21/03/2013 14:28

I leave birthday cards up for a month, and other ones until something else requires them to move. They're nice.

MolotovCocktail · 21/03/2013 14:28

Depends - cards were left up for an entire month after the births of my children Smile For regular birthdays/anniversaries, a week is about how long I can have them up for before they start getting on my tits.

louisianablue2000 · 21/03/2013 14:30

I've still got a birthday card up that DD2 made for me, my birthday was in January. I leave cards up for weeks, I was at a friend's house on Monday and her sons birthday cards are still up, that's been a few weeks now. I'd never heard of anyone taking them down after a week.

CatelynStark · 21/03/2013 14:31

Um. In my house, the cards stay up until the next birthday/Easter/Mothers Day/whatever.

DeWe · 21/03/2013 14:31

I've just taken the Chirstmas cards down. They were on a string out of the way and I never seemed to remember at an oportune moment. Grin

Tallyra · 21/03/2013 14:33

I still had christmas cards up until my birthday in feb, only took them down to replace them. We are lazy, but also they hang on a string in the living room and it gives the wall a feeling of lived-in as we don't have any pictures up there yet.

ColaConkie · 21/03/2013 14:33

I take mine down the next day. I couldn't have them up for longer. It would drive me nuts.
