AIBU to be cringeing at Charlotte Church?

What is she doing?!

Is she trying to rip off Natasha Khan or something? I don't get it. Last year she was a normal pop star woman in New Look clothes and now all of a sudden she is quirky and bohemian (in her mind)

I feel very embarrassed for her. Which I am sure really bothers her. Wink

Remember when she was singing "Crazy Chick"? Possibly the most awful and anodine pop song ever?

She's gone really weird. It's as though she doesn't quite know where to fit into the industry. I don't think she has a clear identity.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 14/03/2013 14:02

I think her clothes are lovely and I even like the make-up. Just not on her. I would totes wear that black top over something blackand lycra-y Wink

I think that she's seen Florence Welch and Bat for Lashes and thought "That's where it's at. I need to be all ethereal and mysterious." You can only be ethereal and mysterious if not everybody in the world knows that you sang Crazy Chic and shagged Gavin Henson, Charlotte.

Also cringing at the DM repeatedly calling it an 'ethic' top

WilsonFrickett · 14/03/2013 14:05

I dunno, maybe she's just trying to find her identity. Like we all did. Except we didn't have the Fail and the internet on our backs for every fashion disaster we 'rocked'.

I've been wondering what's going on with the wacky gear for a bit now.

She was on Johnathan Ross a while back with similar face painting and odd garb. She's gone all New Age, or something.

I do like Char, I liked her even more when she got shot off Mr Perma Tan Rugby Player.

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 14:08

She looks like her children have attacked her with one of those stampy inky sets.

Which perhaps they did after seeing that top

MissMogwi · 14/03/2013 14:08

Of not off. Blush

MarmaladeTwatkins · 14/03/2013 14:10

I was Grin at "ethic" top, Pixie. Presumably it wasn't from Primark, then?

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/03/2013 14:10

that top is bonkers IMO as is her makeup.

ChocsAwayInMyGob · 14/03/2013 14:15

I do like Charlotte and she is very talented, but she seems to be trying to find a niche until she makes it. Sort of "how about this?" or "This" "Does anybody like me yet?"

She needs an image consultant or a stylist to say "What are you trying to achieve? Let me help"

I hope she'll get there in the end but she seems a bit too try hard right now.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 14/03/2013 14:18

Why doesn't she go back to classical? She could actually sing unlike Katherine Jenkins. Do something that she can do well instead of nicking off with other people's identities?

I actually preferred her when she was perma-tanned and a bit, ahem, chavvy. She seemed genuine.

MadeinMarch · 14/03/2013 14:24

I've always quite liked her but not her music

A lot of singers go through multiple transformations. The article does say people liked her set. Can't listen to it now as I've got a sleeping baby on me thank goodness

thebody · 14/03/2013 14:24

Shame as she's a very talented and funny woman. But her fame was her voice as a child, that was her market and now she hasn't got one.

It's either TV presenting or reality crap.

If I were her I would retire and just enjoy the cash.

whimsicalmess · 14/03/2013 14:26

same here body, I feel for people like that. anything they try will be seen as has been.

TomArchersSausage · 14/03/2013 14:27

It seems very difficult for a lot of slebs to make the transition from famous child to famous adult.

crypes · 14/03/2013 14:27

she doesnt look very happy and a bit podgy round the face. I dont know why she didn't carry on with her classical stuff. It does seem Katherine Jenkins has replaced her.

TomArchersSausage · 14/03/2013 14:28

When the reason you were originally famous no longer really defines you.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 15/03/2013 10:08

She's bat it again! Grin

I agree that she just looks like she's trying to find her identity. That outfit isn't even good or well put together.

I think her face and figure are lovely, but I think she spent so much of her younger life being 'styled' that she never really found herself.

That top is awful and is too much with the skirt and coloured face transfers is a bit naff.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 15/03/2013 10:31

I think maybe she just didn't get enough of a chance to mess around trying out awful clothes in her teens? She looks perfectly happy (and, wow, I wish I had her figure). I don't care for the clothes but they make me smile at least. I do really want to grab that floaty skirt-dress thing and pull it up three inches on her waist, though. Rather like the way I want to tell teenage boys their boxers are showing. I suspect this is my inner grumpy old woman.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 15/03/2013 10:32

Btw, I've just realized what the face-transfer look is like - did anyone ever watch The Tribe on channel 5? She's my age so she will have grown up with that. It was where actors who didn't have the finesse for Xena went to hone their skills. Grin

I didn't know she played the zither.

The make-up reminds me Bjork.
