How the fuck I'm going to get

My son to school. Dh took my car this morning because his wouldn't start. I have two babies, a sick 11 and 7 year old and a teenager who needs to be at school for assessment week. His school is two miles away, it's freezing cold, the bus route to school is closed. How am I going to get him to school??

Can't he walk?

Tuppytuptup · 12/03/2013 07:28

2 miles in the freezing cold? I feel so mean😆

Taxi, or call in a favour from another parent? Other than that, the only option is for him to walk.

QueenBoudicea · 12/03/2013 07:28

cab? has he got any friends that live nearby who could puck him up en route?

surely if the bus route is closed then the school is going to have a number of students who can't get in?

hope your day gets better.

TheOneWithTheHair · 12/03/2013 07:28

Walk. It will take him 1/2 hr. It will get his blood cells going and kick his brain into gear.

Flisspaps · 12/03/2013 07:28

Lift with a friend? Taxi? Let him walk?

What is happening during assessment week? If they're not national exams (GCSEs for example) then they're not desperately important and one day off won't hurt if there's genuinely no safe way to get him in.

PickleSarnie · 12/03/2013 07:29

The faster he walks, the warmer he'll get. It's a win win really.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 12/03/2013 07:29

If he bundles up, two miles is an easy walk.

Sugarice · 12/03/2013 07:29

Phone him a taxi , relative or friend who can help out.

TheOneWithTheHair · 12/03/2013 07:29

Yes. I hope your day improves.

Flisspaps · 12/03/2013 07:31

If you feel mean rather than it's dangerous (heavy snow, steep hills), make sure he's got decent footwear, a good coat, gloves and send him on his way - I imagined you living in the arse end of nowhere without footpaths when I said 1 day off wouldn't hurt!

pouffepants · 12/03/2013 07:31

Last time this happened to us, the school insisted ds walk, 8 miles each way, with no pavements.

HollyBerryBush · 12/03/2013 07:32

Why can't he walk? It's only half an hour. I'm an evil mother - I packed mine off for a 4 hour walk to school - only to find they were 2 of 6 students who turned up - oh well school said it was open!

sassytheFIRST · 12/03/2013 07:32

I know this will be radical for a teenager... But give him a coat. He will be perplexed to begin with at this strange garment but once he gets the idea, he will be plenty warm enough and be able to walk to school Wink

Another vote for walking.

Tuppytuptup · 12/03/2013 07:33

School bus route isn't closed, the road near our home is closed. No friends live nearby. Phoned exh to ask him to take him and he won't. I told him he needs to walk. I am such a crap mum.

OP posts:
NotADragonOfSoup · 12/03/2013 07:34

How exactly does making him walk make you a crap mother? I assume he has fully functioning legs?

Sugarice · 12/03/2013 07:35

Holly did you mean 4 mile walk rather than 4 hour? Grin

CelticPromise · 12/03/2013 07:36

Can't he pick up the bus further along if it's just one closed road? And you're not a crap mum for making him walk two miles, it's no distance! Plenty of kids walk further every day.

Are you pissed off with H for taking the car?

giraffesCantDateDucks · 12/03/2013 07:36

I don't think your definition of crap Mum is correct.

NotADragonOfSoup · 12/03/2013 07:36

If the school bus route isn't closed then he can just walk to a usable bus stop Confused

GirlOutNumbered · 12/03/2013 07:36

Why are you crap because he has to Walk? He's not going to implode from the effort....

Ladyinthe-he's just getting over the back end of tonsillitis, I didn't want him to walk.
