My son to school. Dh took my car this morning because his wouldn't start. I have two babies, a sick 11 and 7 year old and a teenager who needs to be at school for assessment week. His school is two miles away, it's freezing cold, the bus route to school is closed. How am I going to get him to school??

He's gone. Thanks to those of you who gave me constructive support in a meltdown.

My teenager's school is 2 miles away and he always walks unless he's hurt his foot. 11yr old ds2 will be joining him in August.
Its the only exercise ds1 gets.

I thought the problem was with your H. The problem is not really getting your son to school. Was there any discussion before H took your car? Did he have an alternative?

You sound knackered. Hope you can rest a bit today.

He should walk, i have 3 kids and they always walked 2 mile there and 2 back. your too soft, send him on his way....

Good.
One of the things I found I had to do was encourage my teenagers to be less dependent on me and more independent. If he's 13+ it's a good idea for him to start developing basic life skills, extended walking, light shopping and cooking, housework along with your 11 year old as appropriate.
If you try and carry everything yourself, you will crack up. It isn't always your problem, or your responsibility.

In northern Europe where winters are long with lots of snow, kids walk to school and back regularly in all sorts of weather conditions and minus temperatures. Your son will be absolutely fine, and I hope you will be too! :-)

Sorry for being snarky.

Oh and give DH a kick up the arse for making you day more stressful.

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 12/03/2013 09:07

Well done. Now get that cup of tea Grin

It sounds like you've had a morning on a sleepless night, which wasn't helped with the OH presuming it was okay to take your car. When I lived where no one cld help me with a flat battery, I invested in one of these

www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_894793_langId_-1_categoryId_255205

which would have helped jump start his car this morning. Could you send him the link? Seriously, they really do work and were a life saver when I was stuck in work in the middle of nowhere. Instruct him to buy one and tell him that he had better bring you either a big cup of tea and a foot rub tonight, or a ginormous box of chocs to help with the late night tandem feeding as means of his penance? It's rotten with interrupted sleep, especially if it's coming from all angles when you're trying to juggle the house jobs as well (screaming baby, moaning teen, ringing around etc)
