Arrrrgh drives me f-ing nuts every time a colleague uses it in texts and emails. To her it's a way to express apology i.e.' sorry I'm running late :'( ' but to me it's like fingers down a blackboard - like she's texting "I'm just a little girl not a grown woman and if I use this emoticon you'll forgive me anything and what is more you'll feel guilty if you feel even an ounce annoyance at all that I've f'd up"!!!

Titsalinabumsquash · 27/02/2013 10:29

It's a crying face non?

Shouldn't be used in a workplace though imo.

KatyPeril · 27/02/2013 10:30

I get slightly insane when people overuse LOL. Why? What you said wasn't funny??!!! Oh well.... :'-(

Fakebook · 27/02/2013 10:32

Why would you use a crying face for running late? It Takes longer to write out than a sad face. :( :'(. Also, tears don't look like that running down a face.

Whirliwig72 · 27/02/2013 10:37

Maybe she's not running anywhere and is actually still in bed thus tears running horizontally down cheeks!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 27/02/2013 10:39

I thought it was a face with a nose Confused. Never see it anywhere anyway.

JenaiMorris · 27/02/2013 10:41

They make me think of those tattoos pretend gangsters have to say they've murdered someone.

FakePlasticLobsters · 27/02/2013 11:15

I hate :-/

I had a Facebook friend who would use that one all the time and at first it wasn't annoying, but she was, and now it reminds me of her.

Quenelle · 27/02/2013 11:21

CrispyHedgeHog · 27/02/2013 12:01

On the old msn messenger :'( made a crying face
Does that messenger even still exist?

ratspeaker · 27/02/2013 12:47

I got a text on the anniversary of my mums death.
Thinking of you. lol

the person claims they meant lots of love but I'm not so sure

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2013 12:51

ratspeaker - it's quite possible, especially if they were a bit older - my Dad started using it at the end of his MSN messenger messages - he honestly thought it meant Lots of Love poor old bloke Wink

:'( makes a crying face on FB now as well.

VinegarDrinker · 27/02/2013 12:55

Yes it's a crying face. Bit OTT for running late for work!

cumfy · 27/02/2013 13:01
Biscuit
Mintberry · 27/02/2013 13:15

ratspeaker I've known older people think it meant that, apparently it used to be something that got used to sign off on greeting cards, i.e. Happy Birthday! LoL., Roger.

Just shrug it off, OP. The trouble with texting and online messaging socially is that you can't use voice tones and body language, so things can get interpreted differently by the receiver to how it was meant to come across by the sender, IYSWIM. :'( Could mean an apologetic tone to some, where as others might interpret it as a range of things - OTT/insincere/taking the mick.

I had a friend who used to always use T_T, which to me looked like an angry face, so it caused some misunderstanding until he explained it was supposed to be a crying face. Confused

StuntGirl · 27/02/2013 14:25

Older people use lol to mean lots of love. I'm sure they meant no harm in it.

VitoCorleone · 27/02/2013 14:29

I dont even know what this one is supposed to mean :-/

A face with a slanty mouth? What does it mean?

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 27/02/2013 14:34

I thought :(, my friend keeps on texting me when something angers her with that on the end of it, it doesn't even look like an angry face. I would rather just use actual words.
