Arrrrgh drives me f-ing nuts every time a colleague uses it in texts and emails. To her it's a way to express apology i.e.' sorry I'm running late :'( ' but to me it's like fingers down a blackboard - like she's texting "I'm just a little girl not a grown woman and if I use this emoticon you'll forgive me anything and what is more you'll feel guilty if you feel even an ounce annoyance at all that I've f'd up"!!!

Fakebook · 27/02/2013 14:43

Vito, I use that one a lot. It's supposed to be a Hmm or "wtf" face. I think in the days of Yahoo chat messenger it used to make a corresponding face "wtf" face.

Tee2072 · 27/02/2013 14:46

No this: O_o is a Hmm face!

:-/ is a Confused face.

And MSN Messenger is dead dead dead.

squeaver · 27/02/2013 14:53

I thought :'( was "I'm havin' a faaag"

ratspeaker · 27/02/2013 15:02

Like that squeaver

the lol i was sent was from someone younger than me which is why Im not so sure about it

Fakebook · 27/02/2013 15:33

Wikipedia agrees with my interpretation of :/ tee :) .

Apparently, o_O means yawning.

poozlepants · 27/02/2013 15:40

Thanks for that Sinister I am going to sign off texts with

Tee2072 · 27/02/2013 15:40

No, it says 'surprise shock yawn' for O_o. That's called careful quoting, Fakebook.

Grin

And I can't see how it's a yawn anyway! Maybe this: : O would be a yawn.

Smile
sazpops · 27/02/2013 17:02

squeaver I love the idea of it being 'havin' a faaag'!

If she's lying in bed crying, the tears will go into her ears.

StuntGirl · 27/02/2013 18:10

One likes and oO are more Eastern in origin, and ones like :) and :O are Western.

StuntGirl · 27/02/2013 18:10

Goddamit, MN's ridiculous formatting killed the first one. Was meant to be a version of this: _

CruCru · 27/02/2013 18:33

I hate emoticons. I started a thread like this ages ago and was told that I was unreasonable by lots of people. So I got into a grump.

I have a friend who, if she doesn't want to do something you've suggested, will text reply "No, that would mean blah blah :-(". Drives me loopy.

Flisspaps · 27/02/2013 18:45

MSN messenger has been retired, and all users told to use Skype instead.

TomDudgeon · 27/02/2013 19:11

When I first started using the Internet when it were all green fields
Lol did mean lots of love too
Some don't seem to be used much anymore like brb

JenaiMorris · 27/02/2013 21:14

Oh yes, brb. Conversations were so much more immediate then - none of this starting a thread and scarpering.

I remember lol being lots of love too. And rofl being perfectly respectable :(
