To want to write for the Daily Mail?

Bunfags · 21/02/2013 14:50

I'd quite like to get paid for writing a load of inflammatory fluff based on dubious right wing opinions. It looks like money for old rope.

The celebrity articles would also be a piece of piss. You don't even need to be able to spell or use correct grammar - if the state of them is anything to go by.

I suspect most writers are taking the piss and don't even believe what they write (I hope to God they don't). I could make that stuff up too and it would probably be amusing for a while, at least.

AIBU to want to puruse the career path of a Daily Mail 'journalist'? If IANBU, how do I go about it?

Can I try?

THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END AND IT'S THE FAULT OF ALL WOMEN WHO STAY AY HOME AND ALL WOMEN WHO WORK. PEOPLE WHO WORK NEGLECT THEIR CHILDREN AND PEOPLE WHO DON'T WORK NEGLECT THEIR CHILDREN. THE ICECAPS ARE MELTING AND IT'S YOUR FAULT. THE RAINFORESTS ARE FALLING AND IT'S YOUR FAULT. THE WORLD IS AMOK WITH IMMIGRANTS, EMIGRANTS, MIGRANTS AND PEOPLE WHO STAY IN THE SAME PLACE. IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT. DON'T MOVE, SPEAK, THINK OR HAVE AN OPINION OF YOUR OWN WITHOUT CHECKING OUR EDITORIAL. IF YOU DON'T IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT.

How am I doing?

weegiemum · 21/02/2013 15:06

I read the Guardian so I expect just writing the opposite in an inflammatory way would get me more cash than working for a literacy charity in Dave's "Big Society" (are they still doing that?). I could drop in references to my dh being employed by the NHS for extra Brownie Points (though I'm not sure if the Fail agrees with Brownies. Dd2 tells me they're supposed to Lend A Hand and do good turns!

weegiemum · 21/02/2013 15:07

.

Think you got the job!

ChairmanWow · 21/02/2013 15:10

You forgot to mention cancer. And Europe. And benefits claimants. And councils. And older mums. And teenage mums. And the NHS. And bin collections. And the BBC...

Actually it's impossible to list everything they hate, there's just so bliddy much! They are drowning in their own loathing.

Needs to be accompanied by photos of onus kids, badly dressed and unkempt

VerlaineChasedRimbauds · 21/02/2013 15:14

Time to revisit for some tips?

Bunfags · 21/02/2013 15:14

Are the Brownies immigrants weegiemum? If so, I think you may have a Mail Story. If not, you could always write an anecdotal piece about how the immigrants caused your husband to lose his job. As a result, you are forced to wear last season's Boden and you have to hide the fact that you now shop at Asda from your friends.

Ooopsadaisy, don't forget the families of 6 on benefits with an income of £80 grand per year!

kim147, be sure to mention his gold plated pension and you will have a rousing piece there!

Alternatively just write it and post it here - cut out the middle man.
MN effectively reproduces the entire paper every single day in various thread form.

Ooopsadaisy · 21/02/2013 15:16

Thanks weegie.

I wanted to go on but everything I wanted to type was so sexist, rascist, homophobic and negative that I just couldn't do it. I was bang on the money then, wasn't I?

I've only read the rag once and ended up feeling that I was personally to blame for all the bad in the world as was everyone I knew, especially my teenagers, who are clearly the worst specimens in the animal kingdom and the world will undoubtedly end if they don't all go to university, have debts and vote Tory.

They have nothing good or positive to say and I don't need it in my life.

I don't know how they are in business.

weegiemum · 21/02/2013 15:19

Actually I doshop at Asda though dh and I are both professionals. It's closest and I can't drive (because of one of those unreasonable disabilities that mean I can claim DLA !!!

Probably not cut out for the dm!

weegiemum · 21/02/2013 15:22

Both my teenage dd1 and 11yo ds wear hoodies. I'm obviously unworthy.

Dd2 prefers pretty dresses. But her best friend at Brownies is from an Ethnic Minority so I'm pretty sure she's condemned too.

Imagine! People who like foreign people, who go to a church (yeah!) that works with refugees (boo!) who also have disabilities and work for the NHS. I'm frankly surprised we're not on the first rocket to Mars!!

Bunfags · 21/02/2013 15:24

weegiemum, please pass me my smelling salts. You have offended my delicate sensibilities with your talk of Asda, DLA, the NHS and foreigners. Grin

Btw weegiemum, I shop anywhere btw, and don't really have an adversion to Asda. Blush

I think they'd have me escorted from the building. A vegetarian feminist, pregnant at 40, former social worker who now works for...a trade union. Eeek!

RedwingOnFire · 21/02/2013 15:45

I married an immigrant. He stole one of your jobs.

PetiteRaleuse · 21/02/2013 15:46

nancy66 :o

RedwingOnFire · 21/02/2013 15:48

I therefore do not qualify, but can i sign up for a left wing version! Could have a lovely beaming spread with an i stole your job and couldn't be happier headline. With the children it it. Wearing hoodies. Even the toddler.

Ooopsadaisy · 21/02/2013 15:54

I don't know if I dare mention ...... (whisper) my partner grew up in a council house.

I know a woman who receives JSA since being made redundant from a job she's held for 25 years. Please don't condemn me for this but she was born ...... (whisper) in Jamaica.

I have a friend who is Muslim. Sometimes I actually speak to her.

One of my best friends is ..... (whisper) a gay man who is a wonderful, hard-working, decent, kind person who abides by the law, pays his taxes and cares for those around him.

My sins are endless and they will never employ me ....... whatever will become of me? I suppose I'll just have to live in the real world won't I?

I want to enjoy how clever Daily Mail Island is but it's so on the mark it's horrible.

LapsedPacifist · 21/02/2013 16:31

I know I shouldn't do it. I'm fat and middle-aged and need to watch my blood pressure, but sometimes I just can't resist peeking at the DM online...

....and I deserved everything I got when I read the comments underneath THIS article earlier. Sad Feel quite unwell and ashamed of being British.

BigGiantCowWithAKnockKnockTail · 21/02/2013 16:35

I was speaking to a journalist recently who said a typical editorial meeting at the daily fail begins with "So, whose life shall we fuck up this week?" Allegedly.

Nancy66 · 21/02/2013 16:36

yes, of course it does BigGiant....

SaskiaRembrandtVampireHunter · 21/02/2013 16:54

LapsedPacifist The comments are embarrassing. Oddly, a lot seemed to be from ex-pats, who I'm guessing have no concept of the definition of hypocrisy Hmm
