My "DP" has spent the past week or so teeling me what a briliant suprise he's got me for valetines day and how happy im going to be with it.
He called me this morning all excited asking if it was here yet, it wasn't.

Well it just arrived and it's....a fucking Hoover!
My immediate feeling is to rip his bollox off but he seemed so pleased with himself.
So AIBU and ungreatful cow or is he?

WowOoo · 14/02/2013 10:44

I'd be pleased. But, I'd rather a new car Grin.
Anything actually....

SparklyVampire · 14/02/2013 10:44

Sorry for the many typo's, that will teach me not the read things through before posting Grin

CailinDana · 14/02/2013 10:44

Surely it's a joke present and the real one is on its way?? If it's really the present then it's time to get the bollock squashers out.

TheVermiciousKnid · 14/02/2013 10:46

Oh dear. Just make the assumption that this is only the first part of your Valentine's Day present. The second part is that he will be doing all the hoovering until next Valentine's Day.

BambieO · 14/02/2013 10:46

I would love a new Hoover mines knackered Grin

Flobbadobs · 14/02/2013 10:48

Maybe it's just a coincidence that the new hoover he ordered arrived today?
I honestly don't know I'd be pleased or not, did you need a new hoover? We don't do Valentines day but DH bought a snow shovel at the weekend and tied a red ribbon around it. It came in really handy yesterday and I actually sent him a pick of the path after I'd cleared it so maybe I should just sod off the thread...
Grin

ScarletLady02 · 14/02/2013 10:48

Sorry but I had to laugh...

There isn't a ring or something hidden in it is there? My ex's Dad hid a ring in a blender box once and it caused a MASSIVE row until she realised what the real present was.

That said, is your old hoover terrible? I love having a good hoover, so if it was to replace a dying one then I'd probably be pleased, even if it is practical rather than romantic. Maybe he's trying to drop hints about what he wants? Grin

Or do I just have a dirty mind?

HormonalHousewife · 14/02/2013 10:48

At least you have got something...

but I think you need to seriously re-educate him in terms of present giving if you want this relationship to progress Grin

Dahlen · 14/02/2013 10:49

From the outside looking in, that's hilarious. If I were you, however, I'd be livid.

But before you go ballistic, just think a little. Could this be a joke present? Could he be deliberately winding you up only to surprise you with something much nicer later?

Even if you wanted a new vacuum cleaner, it's a very inappropriate valentine's day present, being completely unromantic and sending a very clear statement that vacuuming is your job because he is too important. Hmm

OTOH, YABU to celebrate valentine's day. Wink

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 14/02/2013 10:50

Hahahahaha :) is your DP my DH?

He has bought me everything from a hoover to kitchen tongs to a 4 slice toaster to towels as presents for me over the years.

Tell him later you are going to 'slip into something more comfortable' and that you are going to make him so hot and sweaty as a thank you for your lovely present. Then go and stick on some flannel PJs and turn the heating up Grin

RedHelenB · 14/02/2013 10:52

Well how do you feel - pissed off or pleased? That's how you should be feeling, there's no right or wrong answer.

GinAndSlimlinePlease · 14/02/2013 10:54

We need a new hoover and my DH keeps suggesting we use my saved up vouchers for a new one! Cheeky git.

Mind you, I wouldn't complain if I got one for valentine's day as we don't buy each other presents normally Grin. and DH does all our hoovering

SparklyVampire · 14/02/2013 10:55

Deffinatly no ring ( we are engaged already) and ment to be getting married in July. In light of the recent "present" i am re-thinking this Grin.
Apparently my main present is a light for my kindle, i did ask for that though

Montybojangles · 14/02/2013 10:56

Kill him, slowly

hellsbellsmelons · 14/02/2013 10:58

I find this funny as well.
I would go mental though if OH bought me a present like that.
Total insult.
But like others have said, is it a joke present?
Fingers crossed for you that it is a joke.
Keep us posted though!

pictish · 14/02/2013 10:59

If you have expressed a repeated desire for a new hoover then yabu.
If not then wtf??

manicbmc · 14/02/2013 11:01

Is it likely to be a joke present?

I'm with MissyMoo, get your pjs on but instead of turning the heating up, hand him the hoover. He can work up a sweat doing the stairs. Grin

HecateWhoopass · 14/02/2013 11:09

How romantic Grin

Get the little woman a hoover for valentine's day is such an obvious joke that he can't possibly have meant it! Nip out now and get him some shelves. Grin

SparklyVampire · 14/02/2013 11:13

If i got the useless bugger shelves they would never get put up. He's the sit looking at things type, unless i ask him to do it. Gawd who says romance is dead eh

OP posts:
puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 14/02/2013 11:13

What kind of hoover is it? If its a good one, I would be pleased. Although I would still be a little offended I think. Oh im Confused

HecateWhoopass · 14/02/2013 11:17

I meant more as a Point. Grin

Washing up liquid then. Grin all wrapped up and with a bow on top.

HecateWhoopass · 14/02/2013 11:19

It's just the idea that you'd be excited about it! Grin He MUST be joking! Who actually thinks that women come over all orgasmic over household appliances?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/02/2013 11:19

Tell him thanks for the gorgeous bouquet and ten minutes after that, the chocolates and twenty minutes later, the perfume, you are thrilled to bits.

Flisspaps · 14/02/2013 11:20

I'd be thoroughly fucked off

SparklyVampire · 14/02/2013 11:24

He WAS going to get some aftershave he's been lusting after and a nice meal tonight. Instead he can have beans on toast Grin
