I've never thought about it like that as it's pronounced Penny-ston!

Bunbaker · 13/02/2013 19:14

Oy!

It is pronounced Pennyston

gordyslovesheep · 13/02/2013 19:14

my mate just came back from a holiday in Peniscola - oh how we laughed

TaggieCampbellBlack · 13/02/2013 19:16

I live near penistone, and the Snigger factor had never crossed my mind until an out of town boyfriend brought it up.

If you are local it is penny stun.

No peeeenis involved. ;)

Bunbaker · 13/02/2013 19:17

Blimey. Don't you lot live sheltered lives. Even before living in South Yorkshire I have always know how it was pronounced, so felt no need to snigger.

What about Pratt's Bottom?

INeedThatForkOff · 13/02/2013 19:18

Fnar!

Penny-ston is just as amusing as I thought penis was pronounced pennis until I was about 10.

Bunbaker · 13/02/2013 19:18

shrimp so do I.

TaggieCampbellBlack · 13/02/2013 19:18

Is it nice? I'd like to go. Just so I can send a postcard Grin.

ShellyBoobs · 13/02/2013 19:19

I drive past Penistone a few times a week.

I'm another who never thought of it being funny as it's not pronounced 'penis tone'.

shrimponastick · 13/02/2013 19:19

It's only a village, I don't know if they have postcards... But you never know?8

bulletwithbutterflywings · 13/02/2013 19:20

I used to live near Fingringhoe

Bunbaker · 13/02/2013 19:20

I like it. It's a friendly little market town that has a brilliant agricultural show every September.

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/02/2013 19:21

You are very childish.

Wink
ShellyBoobs · 13/02/2013 19:21

Penistone is ok, Taggie.

There's not a lot there but it has a lovely little old cinema which has intervals in the films and sells alcohol. Grin

TaggieCampbellBlack · 13/02/2013 19:21

Oh bullet. Another great name.

I'm thinking I could do a tour of amusingly named places.

I never gave Clitheroe a thought until a southerner I knew noticed and almost choked to death on her own mirth.
