To hate and loathe 'chain' Facebook posts

littlestressy · 12/02/2013 19:46

You know the ones like:
Press like if you love your grandma, ignore if you want her to die.
And one I saw this evening: story about a girl who was killed and her killers all died in the same way. If it's true then horrid story but....at the end it said repost this, if you don't her ghost will get you.
I cannot stand these chain posts, just as bad as chain letters. They make my blood boil Angry

OP posts:

Don't apologise hassled. I don't know why I hadn't realised reposting that kind of crap could be as annoying as the other ones mentioned on this thread - which all drive me nuts.

Fakebook · 12/02/2013 21:28

I hate the shocking picture ones that tell you to like the picture so the person gets better. There's one going around with a small 6 month old baby smiling with a massive operation scar on his chest. Really don't understand the point of them.

HoratiaWinwood · 12/02/2013 21:33

YY Fellatio. Fuuuuck oooooff.

I share funny PhotoShops and Fr Dougal wanting to be Pope photos and stuff like that. I tend not to share, but to download and reupload tagging the friend who posted it because that's what my smartphone prefers because that confounds those who make money Grin

And this week I did one of those "Like and I'll give you a year" navel gazing things because I was in a reflective mood.

But "like if she's beautiful" or "share to cure cancer" can Kiss My Arse.

pigletmania · 12/02/2013 21:50

I hate all the 'repost/like this if...' ones, but particularly the ones with distressing pictures of seriously ill babies with cancer, hydrocephalus etc which claim that Facebook will donate $1 for every like or share. NO THEY WON'T YOU IDIOTS - it is a commercial page trying to up its hits. And the pictures are horrible to have confronting you in your newsfeed.

The people on my FB who are most guilty of falling for this stuff, and all the other things which can be debunked in 60 seconds by checking Google or Snopes, are various relatives who are all highly gullible evangelical Christians who seem to believe anything anyone tells them.

I also hate the pointless 'awareness raising' stupid stuff about bra colours and handbags, and the glurge regularly posted by another evangelical cousin. I have started hiding a lot of people's posts on FB.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 12/02/2013 22:02

The "life isn't worth living without kids" ones really get my goat. I shall just go and throw myself off a cliff shall I? Because after failing to conceive during (currently) 3 years of TTC I should really do myself and the world a favour and take my barren self away from all the clever people who have managed to become parents Hmm

This is the type of thing I call people up on. I don't have Facebook but if I recieve similar style emails I let the person who sent it that I think it's naff, sinister, fictitious or whatever.

Is there a setting that you can prevent reposted posts being posted on your wall?

lillyains · 19/02/2013 05:57

I hate the repost or you will die at such a clock, I never do it but always get a little jittery around that time Blush it must just be the child in me haha

vladthedisorganised · 19/02/2013 09:56

Oh, the one doing the rounds 'Every Married Person Should Read This - Even If Your (sic) Not Married, Read This!!'
It's a long story of a couple who were about to separate and the husband wanted a divorce, turns out that the wife had been dying of cancer but wanted to spare her husband and young son.
Which was just what I wanted to read when sitting with my mum, who was actually dying of cancer in the hospice. Hmm
I wasn't so unreasonable as to march around to the poster in question's house and berate her for being so insensitive, but was quite satisfied when I deleted her.

mrsjay · 19/02/2013 09:58

if you love your dd/ds /cat then repost if you dont you obviously hate your loved ones you horrible person Hmm I hate them I never post them

exexpat · 19/02/2013 10:39

Vlad - if that's the one about the woman who asks her husband to carry her out of the house every day, that is in Snopes' 'glurge' gallery and has been doing the rounds for years.

YouTheCat · 19/02/2013 10:44

There was one I reposted on fb.

It was along the lines of 'Most people won't repost this...' and then went on about people being eaten by dragons.

I like the spoof ones. Grin

ludog · 19/02/2013 10:46

My dds absolutely hate these posts too...dd1 was on FB the other night and told me "oops Mam, you're going to die because I'm not reposting this...soz hun!" Grin

PaellaUmbrella · 19/02/2013 10:48

YANBU.

I did share a picture of Cameron the other day though holding up a sign saying "If this gets a million likes then I will fuck off back to my own planet" Grin

RubixCube · 19/02/2013 11:03

The ones i hate are pics of children with for one like fb will donate 1dollar towards life saving surgery etc.Why don't people just take the time to google before reposting an unathorized picture of some poor parents child who may have died years ago.I saw an awful one with a naked baby with a severe skin condition.Who in their right mind thinks its ok to repost someone elses naked child for all the world to see.I found out of hoax slayer that poor girl died years ago.

RubixCube · 19/02/2013 11:05

Thankfully the pic was taken down by fb

RubixCube · 19/02/2013 11:14

Oh and there one thats been doing the rounds for yeard of a baby boy in a mickey mouse baby grow that so say has cancer that may die blah blah.It was actually a birth mark and the boy was last time i checked a healthy 7year old

Thumbwitch · 19/02/2013 11:19

YANBU at all.

I also hate the ones that say things like "Can I ask you a favour? Will you repost this for just one hour in support of XYZ? Most of you won't be brave enough [blah] but I think I know the ones who will"
Piss off.
I don't repost most of these because they annoy shit out of me.

Also the "Repost this if you love your sons/daughters/dad/mum/dog/pet rat" - no! It's usually some schmaltzy shit that I wouldn't be associated with for anything! Doesn't mean I don't love my sons/family etc.

Primrose123 · 19/02/2013 11:22

Fellatio I agree with you. I hate the ones that start,"90% of people won't share this, but I know the ones who will....." As if we're all going to think, "oh yes, I'm one of the nice 10%". I won't be manipulated into sharing or liking things, I make my own decisions.
