A woman at work keeps talking about her 'holibobs'. The word makes me cringe a bit (well a lot really) Grin. Am I just in the minority of people who don't refer to their holidays as 'holibobs'??

Nah, holibobs are totes amazeballs.

HousewifeFromHeaven · 05/02/2013 10:35

Yabu to discuss holidays in February. It has to wait until march. Fact Smile

BupcakesAndCunting · 05/02/2013 10:47

YANBU

It's awful to hear grown adults using this language. I imagine women like Anthea Turner go on their hollibobs.

everybodysang · 05/02/2013 10:59

Feminine · 05/02/2013 11:00

YANBU. Argh. I worked with a woman who did the same. She booked her holibobs on "t'internet" (also irritating).

FrantasticO · 05/02/2013 11:03

Much prefer holibags, much more mature me thinks!

SageBush · 05/02/2013 11:03

YANBU.

Presumably, she'll be going on holibobs for Chrimbo with her hubby and bubs?

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 05/02/2013 11:09

Actually in tears of laughter at I think I'd want to punch her in the faceybobs Grin

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 05/02/2013 11:17

purrpurr · 05/02/2013 11:23

Lmao, Betty top of the class!

KellyElly · 05/02/2013 11:38

LOL worra - it really does! Where did this word actually come from. It's not like it's easier to say than holiday like 'hols' for example. It has that fingernails on the blackboard feeling for me!

miranda13 · 05/02/2013 11:39

Holibobs is a very lower middle class thing to say.

lceyork · 21/06/2016 11:25

It's such a twee expression.

Abinob · 21/06/2016 11:27

I always think of people who say hollibobs and othet shit likr that as really happy people. Doesn't annoy me really but I'm clearly not one of these really happy people

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/06/2016 11:28

I think it's sweet.

Although I love MaccyD too so what do I know.

EdmundCleverClogs · 21/06/2016 11:42

Did a 3 year old thread really need to be revived over the word 'holibob'? (It's a silly word, but still).

Mimicat44 · 21/06/2016 11:44

Abbreviating words in general is quite irritating to me (although in the case of 'holibobs' it's just as many letters and syllables so not actually shortening the word) How lazy do you have to be to not be arsed to say a whole word? We are not Australian (ie discard all of the word bar the first syllable and add an 'o')

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 21/06/2016 11:47

Ice
please come back and tell us.
Did you advance search the word holibobs?!
Do you work for MNHQ in secret, reviving dead threads?
Are you a prepper looking for practice?
Or were you Kelly three years ago?

lceyork · 21/06/2016 13:02

I googled it and was chuffed that I discovered others who find the expression as annoying as me. It's not a dead thread so I'd thought I'd chuck my two-penneth in for what it's worth. Ok? 😉
