to give up MN for Lent?

theweekendisnear · 02/02/2013 16:57

I think it will a challenge for me to go for 40 days without MN. Harder than no chocolate for 40 days, or no TV. Also, I would then have more time to do useful things like housework, reading serious books, going to sleep earlier.

Anybody has done before?

Sometimes a break from MN is a good idea actually. Not sure about 40 days though.

andubelievedthat · 02/02/2013 17:21

And this "LENT", has he convinced your parents that his intentions are honourable? is he in possession of a good wedge?

OkayHazel · 02/02/2013 17:47

It would deffo be good for my mental health. All I do is sit on here and name my fictional children. I'm 20 and at university.

overtheseatocalais · 02/02/2013 17:53

I did it last year and will do it again this year. I am guilty of too much MN-ing and not enough useful stuff. It's hard, but I am proud that I did it last year. I will return after Lent, but hopefully with a cleaner house!

aftermay · 02/02/2013 18:03

Oh, me too. I have an exam coming up - hence my name change to remind me every time I'm on here that I should be doing something else.

13Iggis · 02/02/2013 18:30

You will join Netmums before a week is out.

Bluetinkerbell · 02/02/2013 18:40

I did last year, it had its consequences! Wink

BumpingFuglies · 02/02/2013 18:42
Shock
KentuckyFriedChildren · 02/02/2013 18:45

YABU. That is all.

FeckOffCup · 02/02/2013 18:48

I might give it a try too, I tried last year and only lasted about a week. Am trying to lose weight so I'm hoping that no MN would encourage me to take DD out for more walks, swimming etc (we do already but not as much as I'd ideally like to, I have got very lazy).

MikeLitoris · 02/02/2013 18:50

I was just going to say I'll give up too until I read bluetinkerbells post.

It just isnt worth the risk I'm sorry Grin

redexpat · 02/02/2013 18:52

I think that's a very good idea. I may join you. Shall we flouce together at Flouncers Corner?

foxache · 02/02/2013 18:56

Yes! I did it quite successfully last year, I had a different name then.

The first couple of days were hard, but I soon found two brand new obsessions to take the place of MN, which caused me to spend hours on the internet. It still was nowhere near as consuming as posting here though.

After the forty days was over, I found it quite hard to get back into and it wasn't the same as before - it was like being completely new again.

ILikeBirds · 02/02/2013 18:59

It's 47 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday btw, just in case that might sway you one way or the other.

TheSecretCervixDNCOP · 02/02/2013 19:02

when does lent begin

ThreeBeeOneGee · 02/02/2013 19:03

The forty days don't include Sundays; so you could have a weekly fix...

theweekendisnear · 02/02/2013 19:30

Bluetinkerbell, Congratulations! That's so sweet.

ThreeBeeOneGee , I was not aware of the Sunday feasts!

Redexpat, I had to google for Flouncers' corner! I am so ignorant

See, if I give up MN for Lent, I will not be able to learn such useful things. I have learnt so much from MN, and my typing speed has improved!

Nevertheless, I think I'll do it.

I'm going to read some posts on Flouncers' corner now!

I was going to give up non-study related internet for lent. So YANBU.

We might have to have a group fred on flouncers corner [misses the point]

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 02/02/2013 19:52

YANBU. I might join you. I waste far too much time on here and as I am starting a new job soon in a completely different field to anything I have done before, I have a lot of studying to do before I start and really can't procrastinate much longer. MN is far more addictive than FB, and therefore not very good for me.

I tried to give it up as a New Year's resolution but was back on before the kids went back to school after Christmas Epic fail.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2013 20:06

I don't think it would be very good for me....

EugenesAxe · 02/02/2013 20:09

I may join you actually. It stops me playing with my children frequently and is a bad thing. I could cope with Sunday splurges as DH will be there to pick up the pieces.

aftermay · 02/02/2013 20:41

Right. So when do we start and will there be a support thread to check in and see how we're doing? Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 02/02/2013 20:45

I might join you...
