AIBU?

to give up MN for Lent?

I think it will a challenge for me to go for 40 days without MN. Harder than no chocolate for 40 days, or no TV. Also, I would then have more time to do useful things like housework, reading serious books, going to sleep earlier.

Anybody has done before?

It's 47 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday

Erm, no it's "only" 40.

Well, one of the ones that gave up or tried to give up MN for Lent 2013 could post again after March 30 and all the others that tried could post a comment to write what they thought of the break from MN.

Deal?

I've already managed 40 years, not sure I can miss 40 days now... ;)

Now I'm confused. Ash Wednesday: 13 Feb. Easter Sunday: 31 March. I make it 46 days if Ash Wednesday is your first day without MN and Holy Saturday is your last day without MN. But then I am quite tired, to be fair.

Only MN? It's good to take a break from the internet in general now and then. But 40 days? I too think we'd need a support thread for that Wink

ThreeBee you are right. The Sundays in Lent don't count. Subtract those and you have 40 days.

In previous years I have given up chocolate or even alcohol and treated Sunday the same as any other day, otherwise I would have binged. Think it would be the same with MN. Sunday would disappear in a frenzy of thread-reading.

Ooh, now, that is a thought. Would probably do me good.

I gave up MN for New Year, was back by the middle of January. And yet I managed to give up alcohol for the whole of Lent last year.

What is it about this place that's so addictive?

I did last year! Allowed one post a day on the AN thread an that was it for internet with the exception of "directed shopping" (as in DD needs school tights, buy tights online, off again). It was definitely harder than a food/drink/choc based denial! and my house is still a mess
