To be really annoyed you can't get points on formula?

Due to 'Government legislation'

How about the Government fuck off? I've made the decision (actually, it was made for me but that's neither here nor there), I'm spending the bloody money, why should I not be able to collect advantage points on that?

Formula cannot be incentivised at all. You cannot get points & it will never be on offer (newborn,toddler follow on ones are). It is to promote bf.

I think it's only the newborn ones that can't have any offers on them. I don't know about points though. never bought formula other than a couple of cartons at the cornershop.

It's not an incentive to buy formula though is it? You get the points on the money you spend. I'm still spending the fucking money.

It's not like you walk in say, oh look, they're worth points. I'll not bother with my jugs then eh?

Yanbu at all! It really annoys me that I can't collect my points when I go through so much milk! Can't buy it with points either!

I wanted to breast feed. I couldn't do it. I feel bad enough about that. I don't need the government rubbing my nose in it! And collecting points or not has had no influence on how I've chosen to feed DD.

If you don't like the law then write to your MP. Laws banning the promotion of baby formula and special offers has been decided by parliment.

I realise that the politics of breastfeeding/ formula is very emotive, but you are hardly going to influence anyone with such language.

I don't know about follow on ones. My baby is a newborn. It's an absolute sandal though.

They may have been decided by parliament but that a) doesn't make it right and b) doesn't mean I can't complain about it on a message board.

you can get points on follow on milks and toddler milks. Only milks suitable from birth cannot be discounted or incentivised in any way.

I don't understand how 9 points (my formula and tesco) is going to make anyone think hey lets not use my FREE milk and lets pay £9+ a tub because then i can get 9points so 9p!!

At one point we was getting though two £9 tubs plus cartons in a week! Anyone who would pick formula over breast for loyalty points is an idiot! Its not worth it!! Just worked out we spent over £480 in 6months on formula... Would still only be worth £48 is we was allowed points so not a huge incentive to give up breast feeding..

The govt treat us like stupid idiots.. Yet they are the ones who ruin the country hmmm

Hang on...you can't buy formula with points? I can't see the benefit of that. Can't really see how it fits the legislation either.

The government need to ease off on the pro bf stuff and just accept we're all adults and all make decisions we feel are right for us.

More impartial advice on both formula and breast milk wouldn't go amiss and certainly penalising parents for feeding their child in the manner they choose is not the governments decision to make.

If things carry on the way they are for much longer we will end up back in the days of babies being fed coronation milk again.

But it's not just a few points. It's a lot when you consider how much milk a baby goes through. And no it's not the end of the world that you can't collect points but I hate that the government gets to dictate that I can't collect them when there was no support for me when breastfeeding went wrong. Maybe they should spend some money helping new mums rather than deciding that collecting points is going to make people switch to formula feeding!

It stems from worldwide WHO guidance on how formula can be sold, promoted and discounted. Its not just in the UK, supermarkets in India/Africa/South East Asia have to follow the same guidance.

Cats, it's not the points as such, it's the principle. Why shouldn't it be treated like every other purchase?

I'm an adult, I'm a mother, I'm old enough to make my own decisions without the Government's help.

I get equally annoyed when I can't buy more than three products containing paracetamol in the same transaction. I'm old enough to make my own decisions.

The thing is the world is full of people who will swear blind that advertising, or store incentives to buy stuff doesn't affect their decision making....but there is a pile of evidence a mile wide that proves that on average it makes a huge difference.

The BF rate in scandi countries shifted from something like what we have now to 98-99% when they banned all formula advertising.

Unless you are racist enough to believe all scandanavians are more stupid than the british, this pretty much means the "no one is influenced by this shit" argument is itself shit.
