Me and a friend agreed to go out for coffee this morning. Texting each other last night to confirm.

Friend - what time do you want to meet?
Me - Lets say 10?
Friend - Lets make it half past instead.
Me - Great. See you tomorrow.

I get a call at 10 asking where I was. When she said lets make it half past I assumed she meant 10:30, whereas she actually meant 9:30.

Am I the only one who would assume that she meant 10:30?

(this is light-hearted by the way and no one has fallen out or got upset etc)

I would have presumed half 10.

onetiredmummy · 13/01/2013 13:01

I'd think half 10 too. X

2blessed2bstressed · 13/01/2013 13:02

Half ten here too. Glad you didn't fall out though Smile

Birdsgottafly · 13/01/2013 13:02

10.30 and especially because it's Sunday!

DeepRedBetty · 13/01/2013 13:03

I immediately assumed 10.30 too.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 13/01/2013 13:03

10.30.

SDeuchars · 13/01/2013 13:04

Is she German? (Half 10 in German means "half to 10", otherwise known as 9:30.

domesticdiva · 13/01/2013 13:06

Depends, if you are English then yes 10.30. I live abroad and if you say half ten they actually mean 9.30! Though if you say ten thirty that is 10.30!! Trust me it's confusing :-)

Groovee · 13/01/2013 13:06

10.30 to me too

chris481 · 13/01/2013 13:08

I agree half-ten can mean half-before-ten, depending on your cultural heritage, so I have in the past queried people who used that phrase. However OP claims she actually said "past" which doesn't leave much room for doubt.

MeganScarlett · 13/01/2013 13:13

Sorry we are both from the UK and have both never lived abroad at any stage in our life.

Link her to the thread so we can laugh at her!

urbanproserpine · 13/01/2013 13:18

yep 10.30.

My mum once missed a funeral because my aunt told her it was 'next Thursday'. My mum thought that meant 'the Thursday that is in next week' and my aunt meant 'the next Thursday that comes along' - I think it was a Monday or Tuesday when they spoke...

lottiegarbanzo · 13/01/2013 13:18

Ten had been mentioned, so was clearly the hour being discussed. She missed out the crucial word 'nine'.

YellowDinosaur · 13/01/2013 13:19

Definitely 10.30
