They sound like utter dicks. If it makes you feel any better... Some years ago (so I was bloody young too!), my friend and I was walking past a building with builders working and they sang 'Who Let The Dogs Out'. Fuckers, we were mortified. I also wished their knobs fell off.

I was in Eastbourne for a conference at the end of November and was making my way from the car park to my hotel on a Friday evening when I came across a group of lads. They yelled out that I was a fat bitch.

It hurt. A LOT! At that point I'd lost nearly 5 stone in weight and yet it hit me that to strangers I was still a fat bitch who didn't know how to take care of herself and was a greedy pig (never mind the fact that the reality was that I was a long way down a long road of weight loss and recovery, battling with a food addiction, and seeking help to deal with it and get my life where it deserved to be).

I know for a solid fact that they do this in the hope that you'll turn round and have a conversation with them.
They do it for the attention. They have a bank of stock phrases that they use, and they use the ones that they get the best response rate from.

I'm a size eight and I've been called fat by builders! They know you'll notice. I asked a (somewhat unreconstructed) male chum about this behaviour, and it's all about getting you to turn round and acknowledge them.

This might be unfair, but I tense up walking past big groups of lads for this reason. Being barked at or having someone shout UGH in your face really sticks in the memory. I wish they could just leave other people alone.

Whether it's a 'compliment' (I use that in the loosest sense of the word), or an insult, most women do not want to be shouted at in the street by strange men. What gives them the right.
