to keep dd2 in her cot for the foreseeable future

not like, all day or anything, obviously.
dd2 is 2. she is a bit of a sod rather spirited in her attitude towards life, but oddly does sleep pretty well. she has not yet attempted to climb out of the cot, nor has she requested a Big Girl's Bed.

A friend expressed her horror that DD2 is still in a cot. I had planned to keep her there as long as possible, given that the second she's in a bed she'll no doubt be in and out all night long. IABU?

Ds2 is 25 months he could get out if ge tried, but he's never tried. He'll stay there till he tries, or asks for a bed.

it's quite a large cot bed - TBH 5yo dd1 could probably sleep comfortably in there.

Tell your friend to wind her neck in. As long as your DD is safe and happy, why rock the boat?

All mine stayed in cots until they were 3! I don't see the point in moving them if they still fit and don't try to climb out?!
Mine certainly haven't suffered any kind of damage from staying in cots til that age

If she's happy in there, and you're happy she's in there, it doesn't matter anyone else's opinion!

Both ds' were 2 and a half or more before they vacated the cots, both times when they actually needed to to make way for a new sibling. Dd is 19 months and as yet hasn't tried to climb out, so no rush, therefor YANBU.

Yanbu DD1 is 3 and still in her cotbed when she's not in mine until I sort out her toddler bed.

I knew I was expecting DD2 and would need DD1 to have a safe place to be put if I needed it, she sleeps well there, has never tried to get out and it is also our last resort for bad behaviour because I'm fully willing to admit not wanting to fart around putting her on a naughty spot again and again.

It worked, she rarely has to be given time out to think there now, she sleeps (unlike DD2) and there was the odd moment she played safely in there while I dealt with a baby based disaster.

So sod your friend to be honest!

God no, keep her in there if she's not climbing out. Why create more work for yourself?

My son is 3 and a half and still has a cot. He has never tried to climb out. I shall wait till I've done his new room and buy a new bed, then second son can have the cot.

Dd is still only one, but lies as stiff as a board at night - has never even rolled to her side and doesnt wriggle up and down the cot. If she isnt showing signs of climbing out (doesnt even stand up in it) then she can stay in it until she is out of nappies imo.

yanbu. Let her stay in the cot.

DS didn't climb out of his cotbed until 3.3, he was so tall he could vault it easily. By then his little sister needed the cotbed so I bought him a big bed.

DD climbed out at 2.6 . She has raised hell at bedtime ever since.

I gave in to playgroup peer pressure and moved dd1 out of hers when toddlerdom hit. This was a big mistake as she immediately dropped her 2 hour day time nap in favour of wandering around her room. This made for a very miserable house! My younger 2 both stayed in their cot beds much longer, ds was nearly 3 but had to have a bed once he started to try and climb out and dd2 was nearly 4.

Ds climbed out at 15 months got him a bed the next day, dd was close to 2 before she climbed out.

I would keep her where she is comfortable until potty training at night or when she asks for a bed.

DD was in a cot until her third birthday and would happily have stayed in there forever. The transfer to bed was straightforward - not a murmur from her about it and her sleep routine/pattern stayed exactly the same - she never bothered getting out of bed once I'd said night night to her.

Keep her there. Dd was in her cot bed until nearly three ( I think). DS was starting to try and climb out but was a much better sleeper than DD so I gave in and took him out of the cot just after his second birthday. He is now a complete PITA, I have to stay in his room to get him to sleep and he is up during the night and 6 am wake ups :( I really wish I'd kept him in his cot for another few months.

My ds1 climbed out at just over 1 so we got him a bed and stair gate, but ds 2 was 3 last week and still in his. He can get in and out but safely so I don't worry about him falling, he can open stair gates too but I still shut it so I hear if he gets up. We are expecting dc3 in July so will have to move him into a bed at some point soon but he's fine for now.

We evicted DS2 from his cot.... because he was about to start school! DS1 had refused to ever sleep in a cot. They're all different in what suits them.

DS nearly 3 and very happy in his large cot, he can get in and out as the side is dropped but knows he is not allowed to get out unless we say so and doesn't.

There is the bottom bunk of his DB's bed waiting for him in the same bedroom but I think we'll wait until we drop his night nappy sometime in the spring/summer so he can go to the loo more easily.

It feels we've only just cracked the good sleeping from all DCs and are reluctant to rock the boat at this point. He loves his bed so what else matters?

Go with what works for you, who cares what any else thinks?

DS also slept in his cot until he was almost 3.
And he was fine and slept very well too.

It's now at 7 that he gets up and goes to my bed.
Maybe I should get a king size cot. :)

There are times when I feel I would like to be in a cot.

Then I realise I would be one of those freaky people who wear frilly dresses in middle age and need their nappies changed by strangers.

But at 2, I think your DD is fine. 42 - it might be a problem.

I once stayed somewhere which had a giant bed - in height. I practically had to pole vault into it at night, but it was funny when relatives sent their three year old in to wake us up one morning and we could only see the top of his head running around the bed - we stayed silent and tucked in and he ran out "Gold's not there! She's not there!"
