I know I am! I'm not a soppy teen fgs!

But I'm watching twilight and I want to be worshipped and adored and stalked by a sex god.

Argh I would even make do with a LITTLE romance!

Really You want an abusive relationship where you are controlled.

I appropriate this may have meant tyo have been a light hearted thread. But the twilight books smack of making romance out of an abusive relationship.

Having been in one such relationship, i worry about girls wanting this type of all consuming, controlling relationship.

Cortana · 28/12/2012 21:51

Romance YANBU.

Bella-esque and a Twilight set up YABU. It's awful as yoho said (Sorry I know this was lighthearted and will continue in lighthearted fashion from here)

Are you currently with someone? If so maybe an outdoorsy style date? Walking and picnics? Log cabin weekend?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 28/12/2012 21:52

No.

The book is about an abusive and controlling relati8nship.

Please romanticise a decent, equal relationship.

Please?

HeadfirstForAMistletoeKiss · 28/12/2012 21:52

I have read the twilight series, and while I agree it's a load of rubbish, I don't think it's an abusive relationship.

He does try to control her a bit, but only to protect her, and she doesn't listen anyway, she still goes off and does what she wants Xmas Grin. In the end she is the one with the power and control.

Herrena · 28/12/2012 21:52

Adored, maybe. Worshipped, stalked and controlled like fuck, NO!

I think I agree with yohoho here, your sentiments may be light-hearted but I hope to high heaven that teenage girls don't think that is how a normal relationship works....

mrsjay · 28/12/2012 21:53

really you want a dead person with no soul to sit and watch you sleep take you away from your family and then you think he is the only being who will make you happy , and he twinkles vampires dont twinkle YABU

HeadfirstForAMistletoeKiss · 28/12/2012 21:54

Yeah, there is a bit of stalking, forgot about that Xmas Grin

yohohoho · 28/12/2012 21:56

He does try to control her a bit, but only to protect her,

I am happy that you don't realise that, that is a classic controllers line. 'its for your own good'.

Oh and the fact that her 'best friend' forces her to kiss him. Then later threatens to go and die in 'battle' unless she kisses him. Both were controlling.

And also he is a shit excuse for a vampire Wink

mrsjay · 28/12/2012 21:57

And also he is a shit excuse for a vampire

He is just Rubbish

SolidGoldFrankensteinandmurgh · 28/12/2012 22:00

What, you want a bloke who spends all his time reminding you he could kill you if he wanted to? Why not get yourself a condemned murderer for a penfriend?

HeadfirstForAMistletoeKiss · 28/12/2012 22:00

It isn't real life, she's hanging out with werewolves who can be very quick tempered, violent and dangerous. He asks her not to. So she doesn't get killed. She pointedly ignores this, he realises they aren't a danger, they all end up mates.

Comparing this shite to an abusive relationship, really?

HeadfirstForAMistletoeKiss · 28/12/2012 22:02

I concur that he is a shit vampire.

Bring back the Lost Boys!

yohohoho · 28/12/2012 22:05

She pointedly ignores this, he realises they aren't a danger, they all end up mates.

No he doesn't. He relents and 'allows' her to see her friend because he thinks she will hurt herself sneaking off. Then in the last book said best friend 'bonds' with their baby i believe. Who has been condemned to grow up to become 'his mate'. You know the guy who guilted her mother into kissing him.

mrsjay · 28/12/2012 22:06

Oh come on, the fans of sci-fi/fantasy tv series have always paid at least as much attention to the relationships as the fantastical world they're based in. The realism of the relationships contrasted with the unbelievable background is what makes the whole genre work.... IMO anyway.

Therefore, dismissing an abusive situation by saying 'it's about vampires ffs' is, charitably speaking, silly.

curiousuze · 28/12/2012 22:08

He physically drags her around, disables her car so she can't go somewhere he doesn't want her to, holds her down and tells her he could kill her, stalks her, breaks into her house and watches her sleep...HOW ROMANTIC.

Twilight. The duck face photo on Facebook of the film world, no?
I would not like a relationship like it. Was like Dawson's Creek with worse acting. Dullsville.
Where's the Passion, the mutual adoration? He just looks like a crackhead, and Kirsten Stewart looks like she needs someone to buy her a sex toy, the miserable cow. I'm imaging that part wasn't hard for her.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 28/12/2012 22:16

Thanks for that link, EleanorG.

I highky recommend a read of that blog post, as much for a talking point for our DC well as a memo to oursekves.

Excellent words.

Mulledandmerry · 28/12/2012 22:26

Amy..bet you wished you hadn't bothered now, eh?! [Wink].

Mulledandmerry · 28/12/2012 22:27

Or even Wink

SamuelWestsMistress · 28/12/2012 22:30

YABU. Vampires are shit. Time Lords are SO where it's at!

mrsjay · 28/12/2012 22:32

I am usually so laid back about films and books but the whole twilight thing really gets on my wick it isn't normal yes i know it is vampires and werewolves but it isn't right and a terrible message for young women and old

Amytheflag · 28/12/2012 22:38

Lol I have enjoyed reading the replies! I hadn't quite thought of it as abusive before but now when I look at it... Hmmm. Well you've all certainly got me thinking!

puts new moon on
